On the 27th of April, over 120 MINI vehicles of varying ages, colours, and models lined up for a truly heartwarming occasion—the annual ‘Mile of MINIs’ charity road rally. The event, marking its fifth consecutive year of support from MINI Plant Oxford, took participants on a mile-long convoy from the Oxford plant to BMW Group Plant Swindon, raising vital funds for Buttle UK, a charity dedicated to supporting children and young people in crisis across the UK.
Organised by The Italian Job, a renowned organisation known for its dedication to raising funds for children’s charities, the rally has become a staple of the British motoring calendar. Since its inception in 1990, The Italian Job has raised over £3 million for children’s charities, with this year’s event continuing that proud tradition. MINI’s ongoing involvement with the rally underscores the brand’s deep commitment to supporting communities and improving the lives of those in need.
The rally began at MINI Plant Oxford, an iconic automotive manufacturing site that has been in continuous production since 1913. The Oxford plant has served as a key starting point for the rally since 2021, welcoming participants and offering a rare opportunity to explore its impressive museum, which boasts a rich history of MINI and Morris models. Among the museum’s notable exhibits were the 1914 Morris Oxford Bullnose—an automotive pioneer—and a dual-steering wheel R53 MINI Cooper, famously used as a stunt car in the 2003 remake of The Italian Job movie. Also on display were the latest additions to the MINI family, including the sporty MINI John Cooper Works, the MINI Cooper 5-door, and the stylish MINI Cooper Convertible, giving participants a glimpse into the brand’s ever-evolving legacy.

The convoy, a symbol of the bond shared by MINI enthusiasts and their dedication to charity, made its way to BMW Group Plant Swindon, where it was greeted by a breathtaking line-up of cars. The rally concluded with an exciting announcement: a grand total of £7,000 had been raised for Buttle UK, furthering the charity’s mission to assist children and young people facing financial hardship and other serious challenges. The funds will help support Buttle UK’s work, offering financial aid and services to those in need, empowering them to overcome obstacles and build a brighter future.
As one of the oldest and most significant automotive plants in the world, MINI Plant Oxford has long been a leader in innovation, technology, and sustainability within the industry. Alongside its fellow manufacturing site, BMW Group Plant Swindon, which produces body pressings and sub-assemblies for various BMW and MINI models, the two facilities represent the cutting-edge of automotive production in the UK.
The ‘Mile of MINIs’ road rally is not just a celebration of iconic cars and passionate enthusiasts but also a reminder of the powerful role that brands like MINI play in their communities. Through the unwavering support of partners like The Italian Job and MINI Plant Oxford, this event continues to provide much-needed resources to children in crisis, showing that even a small drive can make a big difference.
