MG Motor South Africa has officially launched the all-new MG3, marking the debut of its third-generation best-selling hatch and expanding the local MG lineup to four models. Available in petrol (manual and CVT) and the innovative Hybrid+ variant, the MG3 is offered in two grades – Comfort and Luxury – with the Hybrid+ exclusively in Luxury trim.
Performance and Efficiency
The MG3 Hybrid+ introduces a self-charging 1.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid engine, delivering a combined 155 kW and 425 Nm, enabling 0–100 km/h in just eight seconds. Despite its performance, it remains impressively efficient, returning 4.3 L/100 km and 100 g/km CO₂. A unique three-speed automatic transmission ensures smooth acceleration and a sporty drive.
The petrol variant features a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine producing 81 kW and 142 Nm, paired with a five-speed manual or CVT, offering fuel economy of 6.0 L/100 km and a 0–100 km/h time of 10.8 seconds for the manual. Both powertrains feature three driving modes – Eco, Standard, and Sport – allowing drivers to tailor performance and efficiency.
Dynamic Handling
Developed by MG’s engineers in the UK and China, the MG3 combines agile handling with comfort. A MacPherson strut front and torsion beam rear suspension, paired with high-stiffness chassis components, enhances ride quality, reduces noise and vibration, and keeps the car fun to drive.
Style and Design
The MG3 stands out in the compact hatchback segment with its bold, torpedo-inspired silhouette and distinctive “sharkline” front profile. Projector LED headlamps (Luxury) and LED DRLs, a ‘bubble butt’ rear, and standard 16-inch ‘teledial’ alloy wheels give the car both presence and practicality. The color palette includes St. Moritz Blue, Flare Red, Morning Yellow, York White, Blade Silver, Hamstead Grey, and Pearl Black.

Technology and Safety
MG Pilot, the brand’s in-vehicle safety system, delivers advanced features including Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and Traffic Jam Assist. Luxury models add Intelligent High-Beam Control, a central airbag, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, and a six-speaker sound system.
The MG3 also impresses with dual-screen infotainment, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, push-button start, and numerous comfort and convenience features. Boot space ranges from 293 litres to 983 litres with seats folded.
Value and Warranty
MG continues to prioritise value, offering a class-leading 7-year/200,000 km warranty and a 3-year/45,000 km service plan across the range.
Market Impact
Since MG Motor’s South African reintroduction under SAIC Motors International earlier this year, nearly 2,000 vehicles have been sold across the ZS, HS, and exclusive Cyberster models. The dealer network has grown to 44 outlets, with six more set to open by year-end.
