As MG Motor UK marked its 100th anniversary in 2024, the brand achieved two monumental milestones, underscoring its continued rise in the highly competitive UK automotive market. With a record-breaking 81,536 units sold, MG not only secured a place among the top ten UK vehicle brands for the first time but also captured 4.18% of the total market share. This exceptional performance was fueled by the strong popularity of key models such as the MG4 EV and the HS SUV, with electric vehicles accounting for 27.2% of total sales.
A Record-Breaking Year
The 2024 sales figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reflect MG’s strategic focus on both innovation and consumer demand. The MG4 EV hatchback, a standout in MG’s electric vehicle lineup, made waves as the UK’s 4th best-selling EV and the 2nd best-selling model among private buyers. This underscores not only the growing demand for MG’s electric vehicles but also the increasing consumer confidence in the brand’s sustainable offerings.
The MG HS SUV, a flagship model for the brand, achieved impressive sales of 30,207 units, securing a spot as the 8th best-selling vehicle in the UK. The HS range continues to resonate with British drivers, offering a blend of style, comfort, and advanced technology at an accessible price point.
New Model Successes
MG’s focus on expanding its model portfolio paid off with the introduction of new variants, such as the MG3 Hybrid+ and the ZS Hybrid+. The MG3 Hybrid+, launched in Spring 2024, proved to be a strong contender in the supermini segment, achieving over 6,000 sales in its first few months. Meanwhile, the compact ZS Hybrid+ continues to appeal to those seeking a versatile SUV with efficient hybrid technology. Additionally, the bold, all-electric MG Cyberster, a two-seat convertible GT with dramatic styling created at MG’s Marylebone Design Studio, added a new level of excitement to the brand’s range.

A Bright Future Ahead
Guy Pigounakis, Commercial Director for MG Motor UK, expressed his satisfaction with the brand’s progress in 2024, stating, “Last year saw MG make encouraging progress, with new and current products, like the MG4 EV, both performing well with business and private customers. MG will continue to underline its reputation for delivering excellent all-round value in the UK marketplace, whilst always introducing new models and technology. We will also support customers by offering a choice of affordable petrol, advanced hybrid, and electric vehicles.”
Looking ahead to 2025, MG Motor UK is set to build on this success with an ambitious new model programme. The brand will introduce several new cars across various segments, continuing its commitment to offering cutting-edge vehicles that appeal to a broad range of customers. From new electric vehicles to further enhancements in hybrid technology, MG is poised to play an even more prominent role in the UK market.
