MG Motor closed 2025 with clear momentum, delivering a year defined by strong sales growth, major electrification milestones and rising influence across Europe’s most competitive automotive markets. With 300,000 vehicles sold across Europe for the first time and the delivery of its 100,000th electric vehicle in the UK, the brand capped a near 30 percent year-on-year increase that reinforces MG’s transition from challenger brand to established mainstream player.
The results are not confined to a single market or model line. Instead, they reflect a broader strategy centred on accessible electrification, disciplined retail expansion and a product portfolio that balances value with increasingly advanced technology.
Strong UK Market Performance
In its UK home market, MG Motor continued to defy wider industry volatility with another top-tier performance. For the second consecutive year, MG ranked as the UK’s 10th best-selling automotive brand, recording 85,155 registrations by the end of 2025. This represented a 4.4 percent year-on-year increase and placed MG among only five brands in the UK’s Top 10 to post annual growth.
The final month of the year underlined that consistency. MG finished December as the second best-selling brand in the UK, registering 9,846 vehicles, just behind Volkswagen. The MG HS played a central role in this performance, ending the year as the UK’s eighth best-selling passenger car and further cementing its status as a cornerstone of the brand’s European success.
Regional data added another dimension to the story, with MG emerging as the second best-selling brand in Wales over the course of 2025. Taken together, these results confirm the brand’s ability to compete at scale in one of Europe’s most demanding markets while maintaining momentum across private and fleet customers alike.
Dynamic European Sales Momentum
Beyond the UK, MG Motor’s sustained investment in its European footprint delivered tangible returns. The brand is now active in 34 European countries, supported by nearly 1,300 retail partners, a network that has enabled consistent growth across diverse market conditions.
Spain proved to be a standout performer. MG Motor ranked as the country’s fifth best-selling brand among private customers, recording 45,168 registrations. Electrified models were central to this success. The MG HS PHEV finished 2025 as Spain’s top-ranked plug-in hybrid with 8,039 private customer deliveries, while the MG ZS SUV became the country’s second most popular passenger vehicle and its best-selling SUV.
Italy delivered another milestone year. MG sold 50,064 vehicles, representing a robust 25 percent increase over 2024 and securing a 3.3 percent market share. More than half of all MG vehicles sold in Italy were electrified, with hybrid and electric models accounting for 53 percent of total volume. MG also achieved second place overall in full hybrid vehicle sales, underlining the brand’s growing credibility in electrified mobility beyond pure EVs.
Expanding Technology and Product Portfolio
During 2025, MG Motor significantly strengthened its European product offering, expanding both the breadth of its line-up and the level of technology available to customers. The introduction of the MGS5 EV SUV added a new option in the compact electric SUV segment, while the launch of the technology-focused MG IM range in the UK, Norway and Switzerland signalled a more premium and innovation-led direction for the brand.
Later in the year, MG unveiled the MGS6 EV, a spacious and practical electric SUV designed to combine everyday usability with accessible advanced technology. Together, these launches reflect MG’s intent to democratise innovation by making modern electric and hybrid systems available at competitive price points across multiple segments.
Looking Ahead to 2026
With a strong foundation now in place, MG Motor is positioning 2026 as a year of accelerated innovation and product expansion. According to Guy Pigounakis, Commercial Director at MG UK, the brand’s performance in 2025 has created the momentum needed for the next phase of growth.
“MG continued to make positive progress in 2025 and in some markets we have established ourselves as a top 10 manufacturer, with our highly-efficient and practical Hybrid models proving to be notably popular,” he said.
“Customers can look forward to even greater choice from MG this year, in addition to new and accessible technologies in the first half of 2026. We can confirm the arrival of a range of new EVs as well as a significant announcement regarding MG’s access to state-of-the-art EV technology.”
A Brand Balancing Heritage and Ambition
Having celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2024, MG today stands at a crossroads of heritage and forward-looking ambition. Its current line-up spans the agile MG3, a practical entry point for urban mobility, through to the performance-focused and critically acclaimed MG Cyberster electric convertible, a halo model that signals MG’s confidence in design, technology and driving engagement.
As European markets continue to shift toward electrification, MG Motor’s 2025 performance suggests the brand is no longer simply keeping pace with change but actively shaping its own trajectory within it. With new models, advanced technologies and expanding market presence on the horizon, MG enters 2026 not as an outsider pushing for relevance, but as a brand firmly embedded in Europe’s automotive mainstream.
