Stuttgart / Shanghai – October 2025. Mercedes-Benz has unveiled Vision Iconic, a show car that perfectly encapsulates the brand’s evolving design philosophy — one that bridges its storied past with an electric, digital, and artistic future. Blending sculpture and innovation, Vision Iconic redefines what it means to be both beautiful and intelligent, introducing pioneering technologies such as solar paint, neuromorphic computing, steer-by-wire, and Level 4 highly automated driving.
A New Era of Iconic Design
In the words of Markus Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Chief Technology Officer, Development & Procurement, “Vision Iconic embodies our vision for the future of mobility… setting new standards for the electric and digital age.”
The show car captures the spirit of freedom and creativity — an aesthetic statement that transcends automotive boundaries. With its sweeping proportions, shimmering chrome accents, and Art Deco sensibilities, Vision Iconic pays homage to the golden era of automotive design while confidently stepping into a new epoch defined by intelligence, sustainability, and grace.
Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener describes it as “a sculpture in motion… a homage to timeless elegance and a statement for the future.”
Reimagining the Iconic Grille
At the heart of Vision Iconic’s design lies the reinterpretation of one of the most recognisable symbols in automotive history — the Mercedes-Benz radiator grille. This “iconic grille,” first introduced on the all-new electric GLC, redefines road presence for the digital age.
Inspired by the upright grilles of the legendary W 108, W 111, and 600 Pullman, it features a wide chromed frame, smoked-glass latticework, and integrated contour lighting. The result is a façade that radiates power and prestige while projecting the confidence of a brand rooted in heritage yet oriented toward tomorrow. Even the bonnet star — now illuminated — becomes part of the car’s dynamic light choreography, showcasing how illumination has become a new medium for emotional expression in Mercedes-Benz design.
The Art of Light and Emotion
Through the seamless integration of light and animation, Vision Iconic demonstrates how illumination transforms design into emotion. Its upright, illuminated star and animated chrome grille redefine the concept of digital luxury. Slim, self-assured headlights and a deep black high-gloss finish highlight the sculptural bodywork — a perfect interplay between sensual purity and progressive technology.
A Lounge of Hyper-Analogue Luxury
Inside, Vision Iconic embodies “hyper-analogue luxury” — a fusion of tactile craftsmanship and digital innovation. Automated driving has allowed Mercedes-Benz designers to reconceptualise the cabin as a sanctuary of calm and creativity.
A central element of this interior vision is the “Zeppelin” — a floating glass sculpture that acts as both an instrument panel and an art installation. The interplay of analogue and digital displays is accentuated by chronograph-inspired animations that come alive as the door opens.
Sumptuous materials define the atmosphere: deep blue velvet upholstery, radiant mother-of-pearl marquetry, and silver-gold brass accents evoke the glamour of the 1930s while nodding to the futuristic serenity of a digital lounge. The handcrafted straw marquetry flooring, rendered in a fan-shaped Art Deco motif, bridges centuries of artistry in one breathtaking gesture.

Innovation at the Core: Solar Paint and Neuromorphic Computing
The technological heart of Vision Iconic beats with two groundbreaking innovations.
Solar Paint — a photovoltaic coating seamlessly integrated into the bodywork — converts sunlight into additional driving range. Covering a surface area equivalent to that of a mid-size SUV, this intelligent coating could provide energy for up to 12,000 kilometres annually under ideal conditions. Free of rare earths and silicon, and fully recyclable, the technology embodies the brand’s commitment to sustainability through ingenuity.
Neuromorphic Computing brings the car’s intelligence closer to human cognition. By mimicking the structure and function of the human brain, this computing architecture dramatically reduces latency and energy consumption. Mercedes-Benz estimates that such systems could make AI-based processing up to ten times more efficient, cutting the energy demands of autonomous driving by as much as 90 percent.
Redefining the Journey: From Steer-by-Wire to Level 4 Autonomy
Vision Iconic previews the next stage of driving freedom. Through steer-by-wire technology, the mechanical connection between steering wheel and front wheels is replaced by digital precision — improving handling and manoeuvrability while enhancing interior flexibility.
This technology pairs harmoniously with the show car’s Level 4 highly automated driving capabilities. After activating the system on a freeway, the driver can relax, sleep, or enjoy streaming entertainment as Vision Iconic takes full control. Upon arrival, automated parking completes the experience, giving drivers the luxury of time — the ultimate currency in modern mobility.
The Vision Iconic Capsule Collection
In a striking fusion of automotive and fashion design, Mercedes-Benz has also introduced an exclusive capsule collection inspired by the Vision Iconic. Comprising six tailored looks for men and women, the collection mirrors the car’s dark blue palette and silver-gold detailing. Geometric motifs, flowing lines, and premium materials evoke the grandeur of Art Deco with a futuristic twist — a sartorial translation of automotive artistry.
Presented during Shanghai Fashion Week, the collection celebrates Mercedes-Benz’s long-standing connection between mobility, style, and cultural expression.
The ICONIC DESIGN Book: A Manifesto for the Future
Accompanying the show car’s debut, Mercedes-Benz has published the ICONIC DESIGN Book — a detailed exploration of the brand’s “New Iconic Era.” The publication delves into the philosophy behind this evolution, featuring interviews with CEO Ola Källenius and Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener, as well as exclusive imagery of Vision Iconic and future show cars.
It captures a singular message: true luxury lies in authenticity — in the ability to draw from a century of craftsmanship while creating something genuinely new.
A Sculptural Future
Vision Iconic stands as more than a design study; it is a declaration of intent. With its union of technology, artistry, and heritage, Mercedes-Benz reaffirms its position as a pioneer of automotive excellence. From the gleam of its reimagined grille to the serenity of its velvet-lined interior, every detail speaks to a singular vision — one where innovation serves beauty, and beauty defines the future.
