Mercedes Benz Sprinter

The new Sprinter from Mercedes-Benz stands out even more prominently as the van offering the highest economic efficiency in the industry. As demonstrated by the leading figure for fuel consumption of 6.3 l/100 km in combined mode. This corresponds to CO2 emissions of 165 g/km, placing the Sprinter on a par with passenger cars.

Among the special features of the new Sprinter is its drive system. It is the first van to feature a full range of engines complying with Euro VI emission standards. The range of diesel engines comprises four- and six-cylinder variants spanning an output range from 70 kW (95 hp) to 140 kW (190 hp). As an alternative to the diesel engines, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is also available with a supercharged four-cylinder direct-injection petrol engine. This engine has a displacement of 1.8 l and is rated at 115 kW (156 hp). There is an eco-friendly natural gas variant of this engine offering the same output.

The low fuel consumption results from the combined benefits of the highly economical diesel engines, the optimised powertrain, a taller final drive ratio and the BlueEfficiency Plus package. The output variants, maximum torque and torque curve are identical for Sprinter Euro 5b+ and Euro VI. Sprinters complying with the Euro 5b+ emissions standard also benefit from fuel-efficiency modifications such as the optimised rear axle and the optimised 7G-TRONIC PLUS 7-speed automatic transmission with torque converter.

Electronic helpers – five new assistance systems

Five new assistance systems contribute to road safety and driver comfort on board the latest Sprinter. New features which will have their world premieres on the Sprinter are the standard-fit Crosswind Assist at defined models, Collision Prevention Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Highbeam Assist and Lane Keeping Assist. The electronic helpers are available in logically combined driving assistance packages.

In all, this means that the Sprinter comes with a safe and predictable chassis, precise steering and highly effective and fade-resistant disc brakes on all wheels. Adaptive brake lights warn traffic behind in the event of emergency braking. The lamp failure indicator function warns of defective lights and the belt reminder ensures that the driver buckles up before setting off.

This array of new assistance systems underscores Mercedes-Benz Vans’ role as a pioneer of safety technology and a driving force behind innovative developments. The comprehensive range of systems prevents accidents and avoids expensive downtimes. They also pay in terms of hard cash. The Mercedes-Benz Bank offers lower insurance premiums when driving assistance packages are installed, for example.

Public service vehicle solution for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

Mercedes-Benz will be presenting the Sprinter 516 CDI complying with the Euro 5b+ emissions standard at its stand at IFAT 2014 in a configuration by Meiller/CargoTec as a crane tipper. The steel three-way tipper suitable for public service operations from Meiller consists of a reinforcing auxiliary frame to support the loading crane and a steel dumping platform. The HIAB XS033 B-2 DUO loading crane mounted behind the cab weighs 495 kg without supporting structure and has a lifting moment of 2.8 – 3.3 mt. In this way, an economical means of transport is combined with an efficient item of equipment to produce a public service helper for complex tasks.
