Mercedes-Benz Trucks is making a significant impact at this year’s Road Transport Expo with the UK debut of its first long-haul electric truck, the eActros 600.
Designed for long-distance distribution, the eActros 600 tractor unit boasts a remarkable range of 500 km on a single charge. With the capability to recharge during mandatory driver breaks, it can potentially cover up to 1,000 km in a day. Its Megawatt Charging System enables rapid recharging, from 20% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes.
The truck’s impressive range is achieved through its substantial battery capacity of over 600 kilowatt hours, reflected in its ‘600’ model name. This is complemented by an efficient driveline, featuring the innovative eAxle that houses two electric motors and a four-speed transmission.
The displayed model is a fully operational right-hand drive prototype, marking its first public appearance in the UK. It previews the aerodynamically optimized ProCabin. Orders for the eActros 600, which enters series production this year, began in November 2023.
Equally important to operators transitioning to electric transport is the comprehensive support package offered by Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ eConsultancy team. This includes expert advice on selecting the right truck for any application, assistance with planning, constructing, and configuring depot charging infrastructure, TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) optimization, identifying public subsidies, model-specific driver training, and various financial services. The eConsultancy services are available through Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ national Dealer Network.
The eActros 600, beyond its sleek, aerodynamic ProCabin, features three battery packs each with a capacity of 207 kWh, utilizing lithium iron phosphate cell technology without nickel or cobalt. Designed for a demanding operational life of up to 1.2 million km over 10 years, the battery is expected to retain over 80% of its health after this period.
This truck is more than just an electric version of the Actros; it includes Predictive Powertrain Control cruise and transmission systems tailored to its battery-powered driveline. Cutting-edge safety systems, such as Active Drive Assist 3 and Active Brake Assist 6, are standard features.
