A heavily growing number of contractors, who perform orders for the classic farmer, speak for an important trend in agriculture. This is strongly demonstrated by the leading fair Agritechnica (8 November to 14 November) in Hannover. Many of these companies are furthermore active in the local sector. In agriculture it is both about working in the field and mastering the ever growing transport volume covering greater and greater distances.

unimog

With their Unimog program that has only been completely renewed two years ago as well as with their especially equipped lorries of the model series Arocs Mercedes-Benz has the exactly custom made offer for that for the year-round use. Every model of the professional equipment carrier Unimog e.g. is now also available with the special agricultural equipment. This equipment provides among others a front power take-off including a front lift and most models with rear power take-off including a rear lift for the application of implements, as well as special tire sizes and a tire pressure control system “Tirecontrol plus“ that can be easily worked from the driver’s seat. Through this equipment the Unimog is ideal for the combination of work – and transport operations throughout all seasons.

Special position with Euro VI

The Unimog holds a special position in the agricultural sector because it complies with the strict rules of the emission standard Euro VI. Furthermore, the engines having been introduced two years ago, work more efficiently and economically. Just like the engines the hydraulic system has been optimized as well. The synenergetic drive EasyDrive allows a flying changeover from the continuous hydrostatic transmission to the manual transmission.

The exhibits

At the fair Mercedes-Benz is exhibiting a Unimog U 430 in agricultural design and an Unimog U 530 for public service applications. The butterfly mower installed at the Unimog U 430 with a mower unit at the front power take -off and a mower unit at the rear power take-off by the firm Claas prove the Unimog’s ability, apart from the advantages in transport work, to apply high performance attachments efficiently to agricultural work. Through the high- performing front and rear power lift, the stepless drive Easy Drive and the tire pressure regulation system Tirecontrolplus, as well as the possibility to drive fuel- savingly with up to 90 km/h on streets, high area efficiency and soil protection with the maximal driving comfort in fields and on the road are guaranteed.

Agritechnica

The Unimog U 530 differs from the Unimog U 430 in so far as that it has a 200 mm longer wheel base and a higher overall weight of up to 16.5 t. It is equipped with a front reach arm mowing machine made by company Mulag and a wet salt spreader Type Stratos made by company Schmidt with a holding capacity of 4.4 m³ for de-icing. A typical combination for rather snowless regions in where in between seasons mowing and forest work can be done and rapid de-icing still or already has to be guaranteed. With the Unimog U 530 the set of tires 495/70 R24 as the biggest high speed set of tires for tractors with AS is now also available ex-factory.

The Mercedes–Benz Arocs 2051 AK 4×4 has its field of application predominantly on longer distances of transport in shuttle operations between field and silo, e.g. in bio logistics. 375 kW (150 hp) are ready for that purpose. The tractor-trailer has been fitted with an agricultural set of tires as well as an efficient hydraulic system by the company Bruhns. They also added an agricultural semi-trailer that enables a fast unloading.
