The Mercedes-AMG SL has won The Sunday Times ‘Legend Car of The Year’ Award.
Nick Rufford, Motoring Editor, The Sunday Times, commented: “Sophia Loren bought one before appearing in The Millionairess. Clark Gable and Tony Curtis were proud owners. Now it’s back and the latest version — the first proper redesign since 2012 — recaptures the original car’s distinctive looks: cartoonishly long bonnet, oversized wheels and huge grill. Recent generations of SL convertibles had folding hard tops. This new one has a soft top, harking back to the golden age of motoring when it was in its element crossing continents. You expect something special from the SL and it doesn’t let you down. It’s a feeling, a heartbeat, as Patrick Swayze once said. Someone in Mercedes gets it…a car like this is for flaunting”.

The iconic Mercedes-Benz SL has defined the essence of two-door class and sophistication for seven decades, since the legendary 300 SL ‘Gullwing’ production car celebrated its world premiere at the 1954 International Motor Sport Show.
The latest generation, developed entirely by AMG and revealed in 2021, combines the performance focus of the original car with the unique luxury and technological excellence that characterise modern Mercedes-Benz models.
The SL 43 is powered by an AMG 2.0-litre in-line four-cylinder engine featuring electric exhaust gas turbocharger technology derived from Formula 1™, while the SL 55 4MATIC+ and SL 63 4MATIC+ are equipped with the AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine. Prices start from £108,195 OTR.
