Affalterbach has unveiled a new icon in customer motorsport – the Mercedes-AMG GT2 Edition W16. Limited to just 30 units, this extraordinary creation represents the most powerful Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing car ever built, uniting the spirit of GT racing with direct inspiration from Formula 1®.

With up to 830 hp (610 kW), groundbreaking aerodynamics, and unmistakable visual references to the Mercedes-AMG F1 W16 E PERFORMANCE, the GT2 Edition W16 sets a new benchmark for track-focused performance. Its exclusivity is elevated further by its association with Formula 1® driver Kimi Antonelli, who serves as the official patron of this strictly limited edition.

Unleashing Unprecedented Power

At its core lies the proven 4.0-litre V8 biturbo, enhanced with newly developed turbochargers and reworked engine electronics. While the standard GT2 delivers an already commanding 707 hp (520 kW), the Edition W16 pushes boundaries further. Thanks to the Push2Pass function, peak performance rises to a staggering 830 hp (610 kW) and 1,000 Nm of torque, achieving an exceptional power-to-weight ratio of around 1.7 kg/hp.

This explosive output is matched by its lightweight engineering, with the GT2 Edition W16 tipping the scales at just 1,430 kilograms. Newly designed magnesium wheels, finished with subtle colour accents that echo the Formula 1® livery, further contribute to its optimisation.

Motorsport Technology Refined

The GT2 Edition W16 channels its power through a sequential six-speed racing transmission, rear-mounted in a transaxle layout for perfect weight distribution and torsional rigidity. Adjustable suspension with four-way motorsport dampers and fine-tuned stabilisers ensure a chassis as precise as it is dynamic.

Braking performance is equally uncompromising, courtesy of 390 mm front and 355 mm rear discs, balanced by motorsport electronics including adjustable ABS and AMG Traction Control.

Aerodynamics Inspired by Formula 1®

Mercedes-AMG has pushed aerodynamic refinement to a new level. Key features include:

  • Active louvres above the front wheels for optimal air management
  • Enlarged front diffuser for improved downforce
  • Carbon spoiler lip seamlessly integrated into the boot lid
  • Aerodynamically optimised mirrors for reduced drag

Most significantly, the GT2 Edition W16 inherits Drag Reduction System (DRS) technology from Formula 1®. Activated via the multifunction steering wheel, the rear wing flattens while the louvres close, enabling a top speed beyond 320 km/h.

Design: A Tribute to the Silver Arrows

The car’s exterior is a bold homage to the Mercedes-AMG F1 W16 E PERFORMANCE. A hand-painted star pattern cascades across the rear flanks, complemented by emerald-green PETRONAS accents. Inside, matt carbon fibre dominates the cabin, with the seat, centre console, and door panels accented in PETRONAS green.

Every detail speaks of exclusivity – from the ‘1 of 30’ badge to the door sills signed by Kimi Antonelli. A redesigned CUBE CONTROLS steering wheel enhances ergonomics and control, reflecting the car’s uncompromising purpose.

Safety Without Compromise

Like all Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing cars, safety remains paramount. The Edition W16 integrates a carbon fibre safety cell, five-point harness, fire suppression system, safety nets, and an extrication hatch, ensuring professional-grade protection during high-performance driving.

Christoph Sagemüller, Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport

“I had the opportunity to test drive the Mercedes-AMG GT2 Edition W16 and the experience was sensational. The Push2Pass function is truly a game-changer. I am proud to be part of this project and to have my signature embedded in every car.”
Kimi Antonelli, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team
