McLaren Automotive is poised to ignite the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed with a display of legacy, innovation, and raw performance that aligns seamlessly with this year’s theme: Champions and Challengers. From the global debut of the all-new McLaren W1 to emotional tributes marking 30 years since its legendary Le Mans victory, the event will serve as a masterclass in how a manufacturer can fuse heritage with relentless progression.
A New Era Begins: The W1 Debuts
Taking centre stage at ‘McLaren House’, the new McLaren W1 makes its global public debut as the third and most technologically audacious entry in McLaren’s revered ‘1’ car lineage. Flanked by its iconic predecessors—the McLaren F1 and the revolutionary McLaren P1™—the W1 represents the pinnacle of hybrid hypercar engineering. Powered by a new 1275PS V8 hybrid powertrain and equipped with groundbreaking active aerodynamics inspired by Formula 1 ground effect technologies, it redefines the McLaren philosophy of lightweight performance and driver-centric design.
Only 399 examples have been allocated globally, underscoring its exclusivity and the significance of its arrival. Every surface and component is engineered for purpose, delivering a driving experience that blurs the line between road and track, legacy and future. It is more than a supercar; it is a milestone.
30 Years On: Le Mans Glory Reimagined
The festival also marks a poignant celebration: three decades since McLaren conquered the 24 Hours of Le Mans at its very first attempt. This moment in motorsport history will be commemorated with the return of the victorious #59 McLaren F1 GTR, set to thrill spectators on the Goodwood Hillclimb. Commanding the cockpit will be none other than JJ Lehto, part of the legendary driver trio who etched McLaren’s name into endurance racing lore in 1995.
Accompanying this heritage moment is the first public presentation of the McLaren 750S Le Mans—a special edition supercar limited to just 50 customer examples. Inspired by the F1 LM and enhanced by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), the 750S Le Mans features the bespoke High Downforce Kit, which intensifies its circuit performance while visually nodding to its iconic forebear. It is a moving tribute not only to a race won, but to a legacy kept alive in every detail.
The Return of the Solus GT
For the third consecutive year, the extraordinary Solus GT will grace the Goodwood hill. This single-seat, track-only marvel—powered by an 840PS naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10—continues to demonstrate what happens when design fantasy becomes tangible engineering. Weighing under 1,000kg and sculpted with a purity of purpose, it is a car unconcerned with compromise.
The Solus GT captured headlines in 2023 by winning the Timed Shootout Final, a feat achieved with an electrifying mix of sound and spectacle. In 2024, it returned with Mika Häkkinen behind the wheel, piloting a version meticulously painted by MSO to match his 1998 Formula 1 World Championship-winning MP4/13. This year, McLaren will again showcase a customer-owned Solus GT—proof of MSO’s ability to turn even the wildest visions into bespoke reality.

Racing Spirit, Reimagined: Celebration Editions
Also featured in the festival’s dynamic runs will be the 750S and Artura MCL38 Celebration Edition supercars. These limited-edition models—nine examples of each—commemorate the McLaren Formula 1 team’s triumphant 2024 Constructors’ Championship. Adorned in Papaya Orange and Anthracite, the liveries have been curated by MSO to capture the brand’s unmistakable motorsport identity. These cars stand not just as celebratory artefacts but as vivid embodiments of performance, engineering, and passion filtered through a racing lens.
A Decade of LT: The Longtail Legacy
In 2025, McLaren also celebrates ten years of the LT—the brand’s most visceral and track-focused line of cars. What began with the 675LT has evolved into a philosophy of minimal mass, maximised performance, and unfiltered engagement. The Celebrate LT initiative, launched in March, has united a global network of LT owners through curated events and drive experiences.
At Goodwood, this spirit will manifest physically through a curated display of LT models from McLaren’s own Heritage collection, nestled within the Supercar Paddock. Visitors can expect to see these icons in motion, reminding the world why the ‘Longtail’ badge remains a coveted mark of intent.
McLaren’s Ongoing Dialogue with Greatness
In its totality, McLaren’s presence at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed is more than a showcase—it is a statement. A statement of continuity, courage, and conviction. From the technological bravado of the W1 to the commemorative grace of the 750S Le Mans and the avant-garde spectacle of the Solus GT, McLaren reaffirms its place as both champion and challenger.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed has long been a stage where the past meets the future. In 2025, McLaren stands at that intersection, boldly reminding us all that while legends are born on the track, they live on in the hearts of those who dare to drive them.
