McLaren’s latest supercar, the 750S, has been named Top Gear Magazine’s Performance Car of the Year, capping off an impressive victory in the publication’s annual Speed Week performance test. The prestigious award was presented to McLaren at the Top Gear Awards event in London on November 26, 2024, following a week-long assessment of the best performance cars of the year.

The 750S earned this recognition after dominating the demanding tests at Speed Week, where the year’s top contenders are rigorously evaluated on both road and track. McLaren’s supercar was put through its paces on the legendary Navarra circuit in northern Spain, before navigating the challenging roads of the Pamplona region. Competing against a diverse field of high-performance vehicles, the 750S emerged as the standout contender, impressing judges with its blend of blistering performance, remarkable agility, and unyielding driver engagement.

Top Gear’s Speed Week judges were unequivocal in their praise for the McLaren 750S. In their analysis, they noted how the car seamlessly combines raw power with precision handling, delivering a driving experience unlike any other. The 750S stood out not just for its outright speed, but for its engaging character, impeccable driver feedback, and the unmistakable connection it fosters between car and driver.

Mclaren 750s Triumphs As Top Gear Magazines Performance Car Of The Year

As the judges stated in Top Gear Magazine’s December 2024 issue:

“Very few cars engage your senses like the 750S – not because of any vices, but simply because the forces coming at you are so alien. It is outrageously fast and agile, it communicates so clearly and it’s so willing to adjust its line and angle of attack according to driver inputs. There’s shock and awe but also fingertip subtlety.”

This stellar accolade underscores McLaren’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of automotive performance. Michael Leiters, CEO of McLaren Automotive, expressed his gratitude for the recognition, calling the award a testament to the brand’s relentless pursuit of excellence.

“Thank you to Top Gear for naming the McLaren 750S its Performance Car of the Year. This award is recognition of its incredible performance and class-leading supercar credentials. The verdict is also testament to McLaren’s determination to consistently push boundaries and beat our own exceptional benchmarks in driver exhilaration and desirability,” said Leiters.

The McLaren 750S, with its relentless performance, cutting-edge technology, and signature handling prowess, has firmly established itself as the car to beat in the hypercar category. With the Top Gear Performance Car of the Year award now under its belt, the 750S has cemented its place as one of the most thrilling and dynamic cars on the road today.
