Hiroshima / Leverkusen, 18 March 2025 – Mazda Corporation has unveiled a dynamic new strategy to navigate the electrification era while maintaining its hallmark driving pleasure. Announced at the Mazda Multi-Solution Briefing Session in Tokyo, President and CEO Masahiro Moro outlined a comprehensive roadmap centred on innovation, efficiency, and strategic partnerships.
A Three-Pillar Strategy for Electrification
Mazda’s forward-thinking approach hinges on three key strategies designed to optimise investments, enhance flexibility, and maintain driving excellence:
1. Lean Asset Strategy: Smarter Investments, Greater Efficiency
Mazda is refining its capital deployment to bolster competitiveness while reducing costs. By leveraging existing resources and forging strategic partnerships, the company aims to lower its projected investment from 2 trillion yen to approximately 1.5 trillion yen. Collaborations with Changan Automobile, Toyota, Denso, and BluE Nexus have already demonstrated success in electric/electronic architecture, hybrid systems, and battery and thermal management. This resourceful approach ensures Mazda remains at the cutting edge of technological advancements without overextending financially.
2. Multi-Solution Strategy: The Right Powertrain for Every Customer
Recognising diverse driving environments and consumer needs, Mazda will continue offering multiple powertrain options. Whether internal combustion engines, hybrids, or battery EVs, each Mazda vehicle will be tailored to deliver an exceptional driving experience. This adaptive strategy ensures that Mazda customers can choose vehicles that best suit their lifestyles while embracing sustainable mobility.
3. Monozukuri Innovation 2.0: Intelligent Development and Production
In response to rapid advancements in intelligent technologies, Mazda is evolving its model-based development approach to enhance flexibility and efficiency. By integrating internal combustion engines with electrification technologies, including battery EVs, the company aims to streamline its entire supply chain. This evolution will drive faster, more efficient vehicle development and production processes, ensuring Mazda stays ahead in an increasingly complex automotive landscape.

Key Innovations Powering Mazda’s Future
Mazda’s electrification strategy is underpinned by groundbreaking technological advancements that will redefine its vehicle lineup and production capabilities.
SKYACTIV-Z: The Future of Efficient Performance
Mazda’s new SKYACTIV-Z engine is set to become the core powertrain for its small-product range in the electrification era. Meeting Euro 7 emissions standards while delivering superior fuel efficiency and driving dynamics, this engine will debut in the next-generation Mazda CX-5 in 2027. The integration of an in-house hybrid system will further enhance performance, while the streamlined approach to engine units and control software will significantly improve production efficiency.
Battery EV Platform: Flexibility and Innovation
Mazda is developing an in-house battery EV platform designed for maximum adaptability. This platform, set for launch in 2027, will support various battery types and vehicle configurations. Collaborating with Panasonic Energy Corporation for battery cell development, Mazda is ensuring its EV technology remains at the forefront of innovation. Following the introduction of the Mazda6e, a new SUV EV model will be launched between 2025 and 2027 as part of Mazda’s roadmap to full electrification by 2030.
Evolved Production Technology: A Smarter Way to Build
Mazda’s revolutionary approach to manufacturing, enabled by Monozukuri Innovation 2.0, will redefine efficiency in EV production. The company’s mixed-flow production line will extend to battery EVs, cutting initial capital investment by 85% and preparation time by 80% compared to building new plants. Additionally, the introduction of Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and Factory OTA (Over The Air) technology will enhance flexibility and significantly reduce supply chain inventory.
A Vision for the Future
Commenting on Mazda’s strategic direction, President Masahiro Moro stated:
“As the automotive industry undergoes a seismic shift, Mazda continues to evolve by redefining the ‘joy of driving’ for the next generation. Our commitment lies in balancing efficient business management with sustainable technology development to create unique value for our customers.”
Through these strategic innovations, Mazda is poised to navigate the electrification era with confidence, ensuring that driving pleasure remains at the heart of every vehicle it produces.
