Mattel is giving Japanese performance culture a brick-built encore. The global toy and family entertainment giant has announced the launch of two new Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels building sets, created in collaboration with Honda and designed squarely for collectors, enthusiasts and fans of finely detailed builds.
Marking Honda’s debut in the Mattel Brick Shop Speed Series, the new releases recreate two enduring performance icons: the Custom ’90 Honda Civic EF and the ’07 Honda S2000. Both models are rendered in buildable 1:32 scale and aim to capture not just the look of the cars, but the cultural weight they carry, from ’90s tuning nostalgia to modern Japanese sports car purity.
To underline their authenticity, the brick-built models were unveiled alongside full-size Hondas, where the attention to detail became immediately clear. From the unmistakable silhouettes and exterior lines to the headlights, window elements and proportions, the builds stay true to their real-world inspirations. The S2000 goes a step further with an accurately modelled windshield and rear spoiler, mirroring the original roadster’s design cues.
Functionality plays a central role in both sets. Opening doors reflect the access points of the real cars, while interchangeable wheel covers and custom decal sheets nod to the customisation culture that surrounds both models. Each set is finished with a Hot Wheels signature metal plate and includes an exclusive matching 1:64 scale die-cast car, reinforcing the link between the buildable model and the Hot Wheels heritage.
“Mattel Brick Shop continues to expand how adult fans and collectors interact with legendary vehicles,” said Ted Wu, Global Head of Vehicles and Building Sets at Mattel. “The Honda Civic EF and S2000 are true icons of Japanese performance culture, and through Hot Wheels and Mattel Brick Shop, builders can now celebrate these vehicles by recreating them with their own customisation to display on their shelves.”
Honda echoes that sentiment, seeing the collaboration as a new way for fans to connect with the brand. “Honda vehicles have long been celebrated for their performance, design and connection to car culture around the world,” said Rebecca Adamson, Head of Automobile at Honda Motor Europe – UK. “Seeing icons like the Civic EF and S2000 reimagined through Mattel Brick Shop gives fans a new, hands-on way to engage with the engineering and spirit that define the Honda brand.”
The Custom ’90 Honda Civic EF set pays tribute to one of the most influential shapes in tuning history. Comprising 248 pieces, the build features opening doors, authentic window elements and headlights, along with a custom decal sheet and two sets of wheel covers for personalisation. It is aimed at builders aged 10 and up, with a recommended retail price of £21.99.
Alongside it sits the ’07 Honda S2000, widely regarded as a modern Japanese performance legend. The 257-piece set includes opening doors, an authentic windshield and spoiler, plus decals and interchangeable wheel covers. Like the Civic, it comes with a matching 1:64 scale metal car and Hot Wheels metal plate, and carries the same £21.99 RRP.
Both sets are designed for frustration-free building, using smooth resin bricks that click together cleanly and are supported by clear, step-by-step instructions. The Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels Honda sets will be available from select UK retailers including Amazon, Smyths and The Entertainer, as well as in global markets.
For collectors, builders and Honda fans alike, these new releases offer a compact celebration of performance, nostalgia and design, one brick at a time.
