The thrill of speed. The heat of competition. The chance of a lifetime. The MasterDrive Driver Search is back for its fourth edition in 2026—and it’s set to be the most exciting yet. With fresh developments and expanded opportunities, this isn’t just a competition—it’s a launchpad for South Africa’s next generation of motorsport stars.
For the first time in its history, the 2026 Driver Search will crown two winners—one male and one female—from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, doubling the chance for young South Africans to break into the high-octane world of motorsport.
A Legendary Stage Awaits
MasterDrive is on the hunt for aspiring drivers aged 16 to 22 who have the talent, passion, and determination to step into the spotlight at the 16th Simola Hillclimb, taking place from 30 April to 3 May 2026. According to MasterDrive CEO Eugene Herbert, “Simola Hillclimb is not just any race event—it’s one of the most legendary international hillclimbs. It is the fastest hillclimb in the world, where talent meets pressure, speed meets precision, and careers are shaped.”
Herbert adds, “For the past three years, MasterDrive Driver Search has opened doors to this elite environment for exceptional young drivers. This year, by encouraging female participation, we’re doubling the opportunity and reaffirming our commitment to transformation and inclusion in South African motorsport.”
Since its launch in 2023, the Driver Search has become a proven pathway for identifying and nurturing young talent, particularly those with potential but without the funding or access to the sport.
An Unparalleled Opportunity
The Simola Hillclimb’s iconic 1.9km circuit draws top-tier drivers from around the world. MasterDrive Coastal GM Eugene ‘Gino’ Nourse says, “The Driver Search places young talent directly into that elite environment. With professional training, mentorship, and exposure to the motorsport industry, participants gain opportunities that are otherwise inaccessible.”
Few other initiatives provide such a direct path into South Africa’s motorsport arena. “Competing at one of Africa’s most prestigious events is a unique chance to show what you’re capable of with the right support,” Nourse adds.
