Grosse Pointe, Michigan – August 18, 2025 – Broad Arrow Auctions, a Hagerty (NYSE: HGTY) company, closed its annual flagship Monterey Jet Center Auction with a flourish, setting eight new auction records and solidifying its reputation as a leader in the modern collectible car market. Over two days, August 13–14, the auction achieved $57.4 million in total sales, with 80 percent of lots sold, amid record bidder registration and widespread online engagement.

Topping the sale was a 2005 Maserati MC12 Stradale, which hammered at $5,202,500. The spirited bidding battle between in-room and phone bidders pushed the price far beyond the previous record of $3.8 million, making this MC12 the most valuable modern Maserati ever sold at auction.

“Collectors and industry insiders took notice of the quality and relevance of the cars on offer, which translated to stand-out prices across today’s most in-demand categories,” said Barney Ruprecht, Senior Car Specialist and Vice-President of Auctions for Broad Arrow. “The results reflect the continuing strength of modern collectibles and the generational rotation of the collector car market—a segment we have been pioneering since Broad Arrow’s inception.”

The sale was expertly conducted by auctioneers Lydia Fenet and Thomas Forrester, whose distinct styles energized both in-person and online bidders. Over 16,000 enthusiasts tuned into the live auction on Broad Arrow’s YouTube channel, while millions more watched via Hagerty’s FAST Channel lineup on Samsung TV Plus, Tubi, Amazon Fire TV, and Alexa devices.

Modern Collectibles Shine

The Monterey Jet Center Auction highlighted the growing appeal of modern performance cars. Notable record-breaking sales included:

  • 2008 Koenigsegg CCXR – One of only 11 built, this U.S.-based example sold for $3,222,500, quadrupling its 2015 auction price.
  • 1980 BMW M1 Procar – Remaining in virtually as-new condition, this iconic race-derived model reached $1,600,000.
  • 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Prototype “Stealth” – The final SLR Roadster ever produced, selling for $1,022,500, a record for any non-Stirling Moss Edition SLR.
  • 2011 Hennessey Venom GT – One of just 13 examples built, achieving $588,000, a record for a non-charity auction of the model.

American performance cars also drew strong attention. The auction’s American Performance Collection, featuring limited-edition Dodge and Chevrolet icons, saw a pair of Vipers set new records: the 2017 Dodge Viper GTC ACR Extreme Aero Package sold for $406,500, while the 2017 Dodge Viper ACR Extreme Aero Package achieved $357,000.

Japanese collector cars made a notable impact, led by the 1999 Nissan Skyline CRS GT-R V-Spec by NISMO, which hammered at $692,500, alongside a 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B STi at $235,200 and a 1995 Toyota Supra RZ exceeding estimates at $80,640.

Pre-War and Classic Icons Hold Their Value

The top 10 lots underscored market demand for both modern and classic collectibles. Highlights included:

  • 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 – $2,562,500
  • 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso, formerly owned by David Letterman – $1,622,500
  • 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing Coupe – $1,902,500
  • 1962 Shelby 260 Cobra, CSX 2003 – $1,545,000

Other exceptional results included a rare 1966 Lamborghini 400 GT “Interim” at $637,500 and a meticulously restored 1935 Auburn 851 Super-Charged “Boattail” Speedster achieving $654,000. From The Tom and JoAnn Martindale Collection, a 1921 Paige 6-66 Daytona Speedster sold for $162,400, exceeding its pre-sale estimate.

Looking Ahead

Following this landmark sale, Broad Arrow continues its online auction series with a UK-based motorsport collectibles event from September 26 to October 5, featuring helmets from Formula One legends including Jenson Button, Gerhard Berger, and Martin Brundle.

The fall schedule also includes three new auctions: the inaugural Zoute Concours Auction in Belgium (October 10), the debut Las Vegas Auction in partnership with the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas (October 31), and the Zürich Auction at the Dolder Grand Hotel (November 1). Additional information on upcoming auctions is available at broadarrowauctions.com.

All prices include the buyer’s premium: 12% of the first $250,000 and 10% of the remainder for motor car lots, with a 25% premium for non-motor car lots.
