Barcelona, 13 October 2024 – Maserati’s highly anticipated return to competitive motorsport has delivered a spectacular first full season in the 2024 Fanatec GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli. The House of the Trident saw remarkable success with standout performances across both the Am and Pro Am classes, including a drivers’ title and the championship win for the LP Racing team.

Philippe Prette claimed the Am class drivers’ title behind the wheel of the Maserati GT2 number 2, while LP Racing emerged as the champion team. Adding to Maserati’s triumph, Alexandre Leroy secured third place in the Am class in the Maserati GT2 number 24, driving for TFT Racing. In the Pro Am category, the duo of Leonardo Gorini and Carlo Tamburini earned runner-up positions in both the drivers’ and team standings, representing LP Racing in Maserati GT2 number 1.

A Season of Dominance for Maserati
Maserati’s presence in the 2024 championship was nothing short of dominant. The season produced 16 pole positions (six in Pro Am and 10 in Am) and 12 victories (five in Pro Am and seven in Am), alongside multiple podium finishes: seven second places and five third places. Maserati also achieved more wins than any other manufacturer in the series, cementing its GT2 platform as a force to be reckoned with.

The season finale, held at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, brought yet more accolades. In Race 1, Roberto Pampanini and Mauro Calamia of the Dinamic Motorsport team took first place in their Maserati GT2 number 67. Calamia, a former 2014 Trofeo Maserati champion, executed a stellar performance, stretching his lead to 12 seconds to claim his first victory of the season. Alexandre Leroy finished second in the Am class for TFT Racing, while Prette faced a setback due to a pit stop penalty, relegating him to fourth place in his class after initially crossing the finish line first.

The Thrilling Finale
Sunday’s Race 2 provided even more excitement as the championship reached its dramatic conclusion. On a dry, sunlit track, Prette’s journey to the top of the Am standings was secured after an appeal lodged by LP Racing. Initially crossing the line second in class due to a pit stop penalty, Prette’s victory was confirmed hours later after the disqualification of car number 90 for regulatory non-compliance. With Prette’s triumph, Maserati clinched both the drivers’ and team titles in the Am class.

Tamburini and Gorini, despite starting Race 2 from pole position, finished fifth due to time penalties, while Pampanini and Calamia, unable to repeat their Race 1 success, crossed the line in ninth.

Maserati Corse’s Vision Realised
Maria Conti, Head of Maserati Corse, reflected on the successful campaign: “We triumphed in the final drivers’ and team standings in the Am class and came close to taking the title in the other two, leaving the championship wide open until the last round, proving how competitive the Maserati GT2 is. Our first full season in the Fanatec GT2 European Series by Pirelli ended packed with emotions.”

She continued, “We knew we had developed an extremely high-performance car, and the results speak for themselves: five victories in the Pro-Am class, seven in the Am class, and more wins than any other manufacturer. We’re proud to provide our teams and drivers with a car that stands out for its cutting-edge technologies and unique driving style, rekindling Maserati’s passion and competitive DNA on the track.”

Maserati’s return to top-level motorsport has not only revived its rich racing heritage but has also established the Maserati GT2 as a competitive platform with extraordinary potential for future success. With a season filled with pole positions, podium finishes, and dominant victories, the House of the Trident is back where it belongs—at the pinnacle of racing excellence.
