Johannesburg, 18 July 2025 — In a powerful show of commitment to community upliftment and social responsibility, Mahindra South Africa has announced its sponsorship of the 2025 Nelson Mandela Day Walk and Run, set to take place tomorrow at the iconic DP World Wanderers Stadium.
Returning as a proud sponsor of this annual celebration of Madiba’s life and legacy, Mahindra reaffirms its dedication to supporting initiatives that embody the values of unity, compassion, and collective action. The company’s involvement includes a financial donation towards the organisation of the event, as well as the provision of a fleet of Mahindra XUV700 and Scorpio-N vehicles. These vehicles will be used by event organisers for timing and safety support along the various routes.
This year’s event is expected to draw over 10,000 participants, who will walk and run in honour of Nelson Mandela’s lifelong pursuit of justice and equality. With three distances on offer – 5km, 10km, and 21km – the event invites South Africans of all ages and fitness levels to contribute to building a more inclusive and caring society.

“At Mahindra, we believe that true corporate citizenship means walking alongside communities in their journey toward progress,” said Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa. “Our support of the Nelson Mandela Day Walk and Run is not just about sponsorship – it’s about actively participating in the vision of a South Africa where every individual has the opportunity to rise and contribute to the greater good.”
Gupta’s remarks echo Mahindra’s global brand philosophy of ‘Rise’, a commitment to driving positive change in every community the company touches. From sustainable mobility solutions to hands-on community partnerships, Mahindra’s operations are firmly rooted in its mission to empower and uplift.
The 2025 route promises not only a physical challenge but also a symbolic journey through some of Johannesburg’s most meaningful locations. While the 5km route will meander through Illovo and Melrose North, participants in the 10km and 21km distances will pass by landmarks such as the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the late statesman’s former residence in Houghton Estate – offering a poignant reminder of the legacy that inspires the event.
This latest partnership continues Mahindra South Africa’s relationship with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, following its support of previous events like the Nelson Mandela Remembrance Walk and Run in Tshwane. Each collaboration reflects a shared belief in service, unity, and the power of community.
“The Nelson Mandela Day Walk and Run is more than a sporting event,” added Gupta. “It’s a call to action – for businesses, communities, and individuals – to come together in the spirit of service, and to help build a future that reflects the values Madiba stood for.”
As walkers and runners gather at the DP World Wanderers Stadium tomorrow morning, Mahindra will stand proudly alongside them – not only as a sponsor, but as an active participant in South Africa’s journey towards a more compassionate, resilient, and inclusive society.
