Celebrating Excellence: Hyundai’s 2024 UK Skills Olympics Crowns Liam Hendry Champion
High Wycombe, 25th June 2024 — Hyundai Motor UK recently concluded its prestigious 2024 UK Skills Olympics, a testament to technical prowess and dedication within its technician network. Liam Hendry, representing Macklin Motors Hyundai in Dunfermline, emerged victorious from a competitive field of 870 Expert and Master Technicians across the country.
The event, held at Hyundai’s state-of-the-art training center in High Wycombe, saw top technicians undergo rigorous assessments, including practical fault-finding diagnostics and comprehensive tests on Hyundai’s product range. Hendry’s exceptional performance earned him the title of UK Skills Olympics Champion, qualifying him to compete in the European Skills Olympics slated for September at Hyundai’s renowned Nürburgring facility.
The UK Skills Olympics not only highlights individual excellence but also underscores Hyundai Motor UK’s commitment to continuous improvement in technical training. Over the past 18 months, Hyundai’s Technical Training team has developed a specialized curriculum focusing on cutting-edge technology and diagnostic processes, ensuring that their technicians remain at the forefront of industry standards.

Hyundai Motor UK’s Training Academy in High Wycombe, operational since 2010, plays a pivotal role in advancing technical expertise across the company. Last year alone, the academy conducted over 2477 face-to-face training days and provided extensive digital and remote learning opportunities, reinforcing Hyundai’s commitment to continuous skill development.
The Hyundai Skills Olympics is part of a global initiative, with national champions competing biannually at the European Skills Olympics in Germany or the Global Skills Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. Hyundai Motor UK has consistently performed well in these global competitions, highlighting the caliber of its technicians on an international stage.
