The Google Doodle for the 4th of August 2012 is the “London 2012 Pole Vault” event. The London 2012 Pole Vault event is taking place on the 8th of August 2012 to the 10th of August 2012. The event is taking place at the Olympic Stadium. Pole vaulting is a track and field event in which a person uses a long, flexible pole (which today is usually made either of fiberglass or carbon fiber) as an aid to leap over a bar.

The aim of the event is to achieve the highest height without hitting the cross bar, Pole Vault is very similar to high jump. The main difference between the London 2012 Pole Vault competition and High Jump is that in High Jump athletes only use their bodies to jump as high as they can over the cross bar.
