On 6th August, 2012 Google updated their Google Doodle to the “London 2012 javelin” competition at the Olympics 2012. This is the 11th Google Doodle in the 2012 London Olympics sequence of images. This is also one of the more spectacular Doodles, with the athlete in the front, the colors and the way the night sky is lighted in the background.
London 2012 javelin Facts
- The Men’s London 2012 javelin competition starts on the August 8, 2012 and the competition finish on Saturday, 11th of August 2012.
- The Women’s London 2012 javelin competition starts on the August 7, 2012 and the competition finish on Saturday, 9h of August 2012.
- The world record for the women’s javelin competition is currently standing on 72.28 meters, and the Olympic Record at 71.53. The world record is held by Spotakova Barbora Czech Republic and the Olympic Record by MENENDEZ Osleidys from Cuba.
- Both world records for men and women currently belong to Czech Republic athletes.
- The world record for men belongs to Czech Republic Zelezny Jan at 98.48 meters and the Olympic Record to Thorkildsen Andreas at 90.57 meters. There is a good chance that we will see the record being broken at the London 2012 javelin event.
- The javelin in the men’s competition is 2.7m long and weighs at least 800g
- The javelin in the women’s competition is 2.2m long and weighs at least 600g.
- For a throw to be valid the javelin needs to land on its tip.
- The throw is measured from the end of the runway to where the javelin first lands.
Description of the London 2012 Javelin Google Doodle
In the Google Doodle London 2012 Javelin there is a male athlete getting ready to launch his javelin. The athlete is wearing a yellow shirt and red pants; this might be representative of the Czech Republic which currently holds both world records for the sport. The athlete is in the main stadium at the London 2012 Olympics, and in the background there are thousands of spectators in the pavilion.
The Google Doodle were created in the evening and one can see the spot lights and the back and an airship hovering over the stadium. The words Google Doodle is written in the background been constant with the tradition of the Google Doodles to have the words “Google” in the logo.
I also like the fact that the London 2012 Javelin doodle were created at a specific camera angle, if you watch the London 2012 Javelin competition on television you will recognize the style.
For me personally the London 2012 Javelin image are one of the best Google Olympic Doodles for 2012.
