LDV South Africa recently brought together its nationwide dealer network for a landmark conference at its Johannesburg headquarters, underscoring the brand’s commitment to growth and long-term partnerships in the country. The event attracted dealers from across South Africa, as well as key figures including Mr Joy Zhu, Africa Regional Director for SAIC Motor International, who emphasized the strength of LDV’s global backing.
Managing Director Frank Chien and newly appointed South African CEO Gerhard Moolman outlined the brand’s current lineup and ambitious plans for expansion, highlighting upcoming model launches, with a new vehicle expected as early as May. Dealers also gained insights into LDV’s strategic approach to sustainable growth, ensuring strong support for both dealerships and customers.
“Dealers are the backbone of our brand,” says Zhu, who brings 26 years of experience with SAIC Motor International. He notes that in Africa, the absence of a pickup or bakkie in a lineup puts brands behind the competition, and LDV’s range is well-positioned to meet local transport demands.
LDV is recognized globally for delivering quality, value-for-money panel vans and pickups. In South Africa, the brand has recently expanded into the SUV segment with the LDV D90, a seven-seater family vehicle offering a 2.0‑litre bi-turbo diesel engine, 8-speed transmission, 4X4 with diff lock, and a suite of advanced safety and driver-assist features. “LDV is no longer a single-product brand,” says Moolman. “From panel vans to double cabs and family SUVs, we now offer a full ecosystem of vehicles for every customer who walks through our doors.”
The conference also highlighted LDV’s commitment to after-sales support, including parts, training, and the opening of a new parts and training centre in Gauteng in the coming months. WesBank, LDV’s finance partner, attended the event, further demonstrating the brand’s established financial support and accessibility in South Africa.
SAIC Motor Corporation Limited, LDV’s parent company, is China’s largest automaker and a leading global player, consistently ranked among the Fortune Global 500 for 18 consecutive years. In 2023, SAIC sold over five million vehicles globally, with LDV standing out as one of its strongest international brands. LDV’s global performance has been equally impressive, with 100 000 vehicles sold in Europe by 2024 and 21 000 units sold in Australia in 2023 alone.
“Building a great brand is about partnerships,” says Zhu. “A massive opportunity lies ahead of us in South Africa, and this is just the beginning. Together with our dealers, we will continue to grow, strengthen the brand, and deliver vehicles that meet our customers’ needs and expectations.”
With a full range of vehicles, strong dealer support, and robust global backing, LDV is positioning itself as a serious contender in the South African automotive market, ready to meet the diverse needs of businesses and families alike.
