Kumho Tyre has announced that its ECSTA HS52 tyres have been selected as the original equipment (OE) for the Volkswagen Multivan, marking a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing relationship with the iconic German automaker. The ECSTA HS52 will be delivered in two sizes: 235/55R17 and 235/50R18, ensuring that the new Multivan is equipped with tyres that offer both superior performance and comfort.
The Volkswagen Multivan, a storied member of Volkswagen’s large van series, has a history that dates back to 1949, making it the oldest model in the automaker’s lineup. The latest iteration of the Multivan is built on Volkswagen’s signature MQB platform, which is known for its transverse engine layout and adaptability across various models. This platform allows the Multivan to incorporate a range of cutting-edge features, including a digital instrument cluster and wireless phone charging, aligning it with the latest trends in the van and transporter segment.
Kumho’s ECSTA HS52 tyre is designed to excel in both sedan and sport vehicle applications, offering a blend of riding comfort and stability that is well-suited for a vehicle like the Multivan. The tyre’s robust tread pattern ensures consistent friction with the road surface, which helps to minimize shock and noise, thereby enhancing driving comfort.

The ECSTA HS52 has also proven its mettle in rigorous summer tyre performance tests. Earlier this year, the tyre received high praise from respected German automotive publications ADAC Motorwelt and Auto Bild, achieving third and fourth place rankings, respectively, with both magazines awarding it a ‘Good’ rating. These accolades underscore the tyre’s exceptional performance characteristics, further solidifying its reputation in the market.
Insoo Kim, Executive Vice President of Sales – OE at Kumho Tyre, highlighted the importance of this partnership with Volkswagen: “Our supply of OE tyres for the Multivan holds great significance since the vehicle is a key model belonging to a series that dates back to the beginning of Volkswagen. The automaker’s recognition of our quality and technological capabilities has enabled us to maintain a strong partnership with them, even before the Multivan, with respect to such vehicles as the Polo, Taos, and Jetta.”
Kumho Tyre’s recent ventures into supplying tyres for flagship electric vehicles from prestigious automakers further demonstrate its technological leadership and premium brand value. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, partnerships like the one between Kumho Tyre and Volkswagen will play a crucial role in shaping the future of vehicle performance and safety.
