The unmistakable scent of churned earth and the echo of high-revving single-cylinders will soon return to Iwade Speedway in Kent and Leicester Speedway, as the Royal Enfield Slide School makes its eagerly anticipated comeback for 2025. Hosted by multiple UK and European flat track champion Gary Birtwistle and his Dirt Craft team, the Slide School offers a rare and exhilarating introduction to the world of flat track riding—welcoming beginners and seasoned bikers alike to master the art of the dirt oval.
But this year, there’s more than just new riders joining the fray. Making its debut is Royal Enfield’s all-new FT450—a purpose-built flat track machine born from the bones of the Guerrilla 450 and tuned exclusively for the Slide School experience.
Learn to Slide, the Right Way
For those unfamiliar with flat track, it’s one of motorcycling’s purest disciplines. It strips the sport down to throttle control, balance, and bravery—no front brakes, just skill and grit. At Slide School, riders spend a full day under the watchful eye of championship-level trainers, honing technique on a specially prepared dirt circuit. No previous flat track experience is required—just a willingness to learn and get a little dirty.
Each event is meticulously designed to build confidence and competence from the ground up, covering everything from body positioning and throttle modulation to controlled slides and cornering techniques. Whether it’s your first time on a flat track or you’re looking to unlock an extra tenth, the instruction is personalised, progressive, and delivered in a relaxed, encouraging environment.
Introducing the FT450: Built for the Oval
At the centre of this year’s Slide School is the FT450, an aggressive and athletic machine that won’t be hitting showroom floors anytime soon—but will be waiting for riders at the training days. Built upon the foundation of the new Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 and powered by the brand’s cutting-edge Sherpa 450 liquid-cooled engine, the FT450 blends real racing pedigree with an unmistakable flat track attitude.
Producing a punchy 40 bhp and 40 Nm of torque, the FT450 dials up the dirt with:
- Full-system exhaust for race-inspired acoustics
- FuelX tuning for precise dirt-focused throttle response
- Custom bodywork that enhances maneuverability
- 18-inch flat track wheels and specialised tyres
- Custom bars and controls that give riders extra leverage through every slide

This isn’t a bike you’ll see on the high street—but it’s the perfect tool for learning how to push limits in a controlled and safe setting. For those who want the look and feel on the road, the Guerrilla 450 can be outfitted with Royal Enfield’s Flat Track GMA pack, adding styling and protection elements inspired by the FT450, including sump and radiator guards, bar-end mirrors, and a stylish bench seat.
Slide, Then Race: New for 2025
For returning riders or Slide School graduates craving the next challenge, 2025 also introduces the Race Experience. This extension gives learners a chance to put their training into practice on a real race grid, on the same bespoke FT450s, side by side with other rookie racers. It’s an adrenaline-charged next step for those bitten by the flat track bug.
