WWCOTY Delegation Presents Kia with Prestigious World’s Best Car Award
In July, three distinguished jury members of the Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year (WWCOTY) traveled to Korea to present Kia with the prestigious World’s Best Car award for the Kia EV9, the supreme winner for 2024.
The esteemed judges—Shereen Shabnam from the UAE, Nicole Wakelin from the USA, and Sandy Myhre from New Zealand—handed over the coveted trophy to Mr. Teckkoun Kim, Head of Kia Design Next Group, at the Busan International Mobility Show.
Mr. Kim emphasized the importance of this accolade, stating, “The recognition from expert juries like yours provides an additional layer of credibility and validation for the EV9, reinforcing its appeal to consumers.”
The WWCOTY delegation’s visit included interviews for Kia’s official social media channels, such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. These interviews are expected to feature in a promotional video collaboration with Bloomberg Media, extending the award’s reach and impact.
Michael Choo of Kia Brand Communications conducted an in-depth television interview with the jury members, focusing on the theme, ‘How Kia EV9 Became the Supreme Winner of the WWCOTY Award.’ During this interview, Sandy Myhre provided a historical overview of the awards, highlighting the meticulous voting process that led to the EV9’s victory.
Shereen Shabnam discussed the innovative design elements of the EV9, including its lowered hipline for enhanced visibility and the distinctive ‘star’ cluster headlights. Nicole Wakelin elaborated on the unique wheel design, noting the sporty spoke pattern that creates a striking geometric effect.
The judges collectively underscored the significance of the WWCOTY Award and its implications for Kia customers globally, emphasizing the award’s role in celebrating automotive excellence and innovation.
About Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year
The Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year is the only automotive awards group exclusively composed of women motoring journalists. Founded in 2009 by New Zealand motoring journalist Sandy Myhre, who serves as Honorary President, the organization aims to recognize the best cars of the year while amplifying women’s voices in the automotive industry. Marta García is the current Executive President.
This unique award is based on comprehensive criteria that mirror the considerations of any car buyer, such as safety, quality, price, design, ease of driving, and environmental impact. The jurors do not select a ‘woman’s car,’ as cars are inherently gender-neutral.
