Kia has officially announced UK pricing and specifications for the new EV5, a fully electric family SUV designed to take on the country’s most competitive vehicle segment. With seating for five, a practical two-row layout, and an impressive range of up to 329 miles on a single charge, the EV5 combines everyday usability with cutting-edge technology.
Available in three familiar trim levels—‘Air’, ‘GT-Line’, and ‘GT-Line S’—the EV5 range starts at £39,295, with order books now open and first customer deliveries expected later in 2025.
Powertrain and Performance
All versions of the EV5 are powered by an 81.4kWh battery paired with a single front-mounted motor delivering 160kW (214bhp) and 295Nm of torque. This setup allows for:
- 0–62mph in 8.4 seconds
- Top speed of 102mph
- Up to 329 miles of range (WLTP combined)
Charging is swift and convenient, thanks to Kia’s E-GMP platform with 400V architecture. The EV5 can recharge from 10–80% in just 30 minutes using a 150kW+ DC fast charger, or achieve a full charge in 7 hours 20 minutes via an 11kW AC home charger.
Design and Aerodynamics
Despite its generous family-friendly proportions, the EV5 has been carefully honed for efficiency. Active Air Flaps, a full body undercover, and a rear boattail roofline help achieve a drag coefficient as low as 0.29Cd.
Dimensionally, it sits alongside the Kia Sportage but offers greater presence—10mm wider, 70mm longer, 30mm taller, and with a wheelbase extended by 70mm.
Space and Practicality
The EV5 has been engineered for versatility, with a configurable interior and plentiful storage:
- 566 litres of boot space (expanding to 1,650 litres with seats folded)
- 44-litre front trunk (frunk) for charging cables
- Adjustable boot floor for loading flexibility
- A centre console offering 16.5 litres of compartmentalised storage
Technology and Connectivity
Inside, the EV5 showcases Kia’s most advanced digital ecosystem yet. Highlights include:
- Dual 12.3-inch displays + 5.3-inch climate control screen
- Wireless Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™
- AI-powered voice assistant (integrated with ChatGPT) for navigation, entertainment, and vehicle functions
- Kia CarPay and Plug & Charge as standard
- Optional Entertainment Packages offering Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, and music streaming when parked
High-spec ‘GT-Line S’ models add a 12.3-inch Head-Up Display, Harman Kardon® audio, and Remote Smart Parking Assist 2.0, among other premium features.
Trim Levels and Pricing
- EV5 ‘Air’ – from £39,295
- EV5 ‘GT-Line’ – from £42,595
- EV5 ‘GT-Line S’ – from £47,095
Each model is comprehensively equipped, with exterior paint being the only major option at entry level.
Why the EV5 Matters
As Kia accelerates its plan to launch nine electric vehicles in the UK by 2027, the EV5 plays a crucial role as the brand’s electric counterpart to the Sportage—its long-standing best-seller. By combining space, style, efficiency, and cutting-edge technology, the EV5 strengthens Kia’s position as one of the leaders in the transition to electrified family mobility.
