Kia has once again raised the bar for electric vehicle safety with the EV5, its fully electric SUV, achieving the coveted five-star rating in the latest Euro NCAP tests. The accolade underscores the EV5’s comprehensive safety credentials, combining advanced technologies with a robust platform to protect occupants, vulnerable road users, and drivers alike.
The EV5 underwent rigorous evaluation across four Euro NCAP categories, securing an impressive 83% for adult occupant protection, 85% for child occupant protection, 74% for vulnerable road users, and 80% in the ‘Safety Assist’ segment, which measures the effectiveness of collision-avoidance systems.
Robust Protection for All Occupants
Euro NCAP’s tests demonstrated the EV5’s exceptional performance in protecting adult occupants. The passenger compartment remained stable during frontal impacts, with dummy readings confirming excellent knee and femur protection for both driver and front passenger. Side barrier impacts saw the SUV score maximum points, while front- and rear-seat whiplash tests confirmed strong protection in rear-end collisions. Safety features such as an advanced eCall system and secondary impact mitigation technologies further enhance occupant protection.
Child safety is equally impressive. The EV5 scored higher in child occupant tests, safeguarding all critical areas in both frontal and side collisions. The front passenger airbag can be deactivated to accommodate rear-facing child restraints, and all child restraint types designed for the EV5 can be correctly installed and secured.

Protecting Vulnerable Road Users
Euro NCAP also highlighted the EV5’s commitment to protecting pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists. The vehicle delivers good or adequate head and leg protection across its front, while the autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system actively responds to other vehicles and vulnerable road users. Cyclist detection and mitigation proved particularly effective, reflecting Kia’s focus on real-world safety scenarios.
Advanced Safety Assistance Systems
The EV5 excels in the ‘Safety Assist’ category thanks to a suite of advanced technologies. Its AEB system helps avoid or reduce the severity of collisions, while Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) intervenes when necessary to maintain safe lane positioning. The Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA) recognises speed limits in real-time, complemented by a driver status monitoring system and seatbelt reminders for all occupants.
Built on a Safe and Strong Platform
The EV5’s exceptional safety performance is underpinned by Kia’s high-strength Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and rigid body structure. Combined with a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), the SUV delivers both convenience and reassurance, whether navigating urban streets or covering long distances.
Practical, Efficient, and Ready for the Road
Beyond safety, the EV5 delivers genuine SUV practicality. As a cornerstone of Kia’s electrification strategy, it supports the global transition to zero-emission mobility while expanding the brand’s reach in key international markets. The EV5 is powered by an 81.4 kWh battery paired with a 160 kW motor, offering a WLTP-certified range of up to 530 km (329 miles)*.
Efficiency-enhancing technologies, including regenerative braking, an advanced heat pump system, and fast-charging capability (10–80% in just 30 minutes**), ensure the EV5 is as usable in daily commutes as it is on long journeys. The European rollout commenced in Q4 2025, bringing Kia’s next-generation electric SUV to discerning drivers across the continent.
With its five-star Euro NCAP rating, cutting-edge safety systems, and practical electric performance, the Kia EV5 sets a new benchmark for EV safety and positions itself as a compelling choice for families, urban drivers, and adventurers alike.
