Kia has emerged as a dominant force in the UK automotive market in 2024, driven by record-breaking sales, award-winning models, and a strong push towards electrification. Leading the charge is the Kia Sportage, which secured the title of the UK’s best-selling SUV and the second best-selling car overall, with 47,163 units sold, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
Unprecedented Success for Kia in the UK
Kia’s total 2024 sales reached an impressive 112,252 units, capturing 5.7% of the UK market and solidifying its position as the fourth best-selling automotive brand. This milestone reflects a new high for Kia, fueled by its commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction.
Half of Kia’s 2024 sales were Eco models, encompassing fully electric, plug-in hybrid, and hybrid vehicles. This achievement positioned Kia as the second best-selling brand for electrified models, aligning with the UK’s inaugural Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) mandate targets.
The Sportage: Kia’s Crown Jewel
Accounting for 42% of Kia’s sales, the Sportage has proven its enduring appeal among UK buyers. Its diverse range of efficient and electrified powertrains has made it a top choice for families and eco-conscious consumers alike.
Kia’s dominance in the competitive compact SUV segment was further bolstered by strong performances from the Niro and XCeed. Together with the Sportage, these three models amassed 72,836 sales, securing a 12.6% market share in the C-SUV segment.
A Year of Innovation and Electrification
In 2024, Kia expanded its electric portfolio with the launch of the EV3, a compact electric SUV that joined the EV6, EV9, and Niro EV. The EV3’s November debut coincided with Kia celebrating a decade of electric vehicle sales in the UK, tracing back to the pioneering Soul EV in 2014.
Kia also introduced refreshed versions of its smallest and largest non-electric models, the Picanto and Sorento, further diversifying its lineup.

Awards and Accolades
Kia’s commitment to quality and innovation was recognized with 68 awards in 2024. The EV9 stood out, earning titles such as UK Car of the Year 2024, World Car of the Year 2024, and Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year 2024. Despite its late-year launch, the EV3 made an immediate impact, winning Car of the Year from Electrifying.com and Crossover of the Year from Top Gear.
Kia’s Vision for the Future
Kia UK’s President and CEO, Paul Philpott, expressed pride in the brand’s achievements:
“2024 has been yet another fantastic year for Kia. Despite various challenges and the first year of the new ZEV Mandate regulation, Kia UK achieved record upon record. This reflects the demand for our award-winning lineup of electric and electrified models and the trust our customers place in our brand.”
Looking ahead, Kia plans to build on this momentum with updates to its product lineup and a bold entry into the commercial vehicle market.
A Record-Breaking Year
From record sales in multiple months to achieving new milestones across electrification and sustainability, Kia’s 2024 was marked by unprecedented success. Highlights included selling its 1.5 millionth car in the UK, launching the Kia Academy training center, and becoming a Gold Carbon Literate Organisation.
Kia’s enduring partnerships, such as with Surrey County Cricket Club and new ventures like collaborations with Digital Cinema Media, further showcased the brand’s commitment to community and culture.
As 2025 begins, Kia’s strong foundation and innovative approach promise even greater achievements. With plans to venture into the commercial vehicle market and a growing electric lineup, Kia remains a driving force in the UK automotive industry.
