KGM Motors UK, formerly known as SsangYong, is proud to support a remarkable community initiative that blends endurance, compassion, and innovation. In partnership with longstanding dealer Blackshaws Morpeth, KGM is supplying a rugged Musso pick-up as the official liaison vehicle for the Big BEDMAX Bike Ride—a 400-mile charity cycling challenge in aid of the Freeman Heart & Lung Transplant Association (FHLTA).
The event, which kicked off on 20 June 2025, is the latest charitable endeavour from BEDMAX, the UK’s leading producer of premium equine bedding. Orchestrated by Managing Director Tim Smalley and Operations Manager Olivia Leyland, the ambitious seven-day ride will see the BEDMAX team travel from the company’s southernmost production site in Hampshire to its headquarters in Northumberland. Their mission? To raise £25,000 for the charity that played a pivotal role in saving the life of Tony Robinson, BEDMAX’s Production Development Manager, who received a lifesaving lung transplant at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital.

To support the cross-country journey, Blackshaws Morpeth has provided a KGM Musso pick-up—an award-winning vehicle renowned for its toughness, towing power, and reliability. Throughout the week-long ride, the Musso will serve as a vital support vehicle for the cyclists and transport for Tony, helping to ensure a smooth and safe journey from start to finish.
“Having been family friends with Tony for many years, when he reached out and explained the challenge, it was an honour to offer our support,” said Will Blackshaw, Company Director at Blackshaws Morpeth. “This is more than a ride—it’s a celebration of resilience and a show of solidarity for an incredible cause. We wish the team all the best, not only for this event but for all their charitable efforts throughout the year.”
Blackshaws Morpeth has long been a beacon of community spirit in the Northeast. With over 100 years of heritage, the family-run dealership remains deeply committed to supporting local initiatives. One of its latest efforts includes launching the Blackshaws Northumberland Rugby Volunteer of the Year 2025 Award, honouring the unsung heroes who dedicate their time to grassroots sport.
Visitors to the Blackshaws showroom on Coopies Way, Morpeth, can explore KGM’s diverse line-up of vehicles, including the rugged Musso, the flagship Rexton SUV, stylish Tivoli, adventurous Korando, and the highly anticipated Torres range—available in both petrol and all-electric EVX versions. The dealership also provides a full suite of aftersales services, including MOTs, servicing, and access to genuine KGM parts.
The Big BEDMAX Bike Ride follows a carefully planned route with overnight stops in St Mary Bourne, Wantage, Banbury, Caunton, York, and Yarm. A meaningful visit to the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle will honour the transplant team’s life-saving work before the journey concludes at BEDMAX’s original production site in Detchant, near Belford.
BEDMAX Managing Director Tim Smalley said: “The ultimate challenge for me this year is this cycle ride. It’s far beyond anything we’ve done before, but it’s a fitting way to mark BEDMAX’s 25th anniversary while raising awareness and vital funds for a cause that’s so close to our hearts.”
The FHLTA plays a crucial role in supporting transplant patients and their families, funding vital research and services that improve patient care and long-term outcomes.
Adele Lambert, Chair of the FHLTA, expressed her gratitude: “We at the FHLTA are honoured to be chosen by BEDMAX as their charity of the year. Tony’s personal journey highlights the importance of what we do. The funds raised will go directly towards supporting transplant patients and furthering essential research.”
As the team pedals northward, powered by determination and the support of partners like KGM and Blackshaws, the Big BEDMAX Bike Ride stands as a powerful example of how industry, community, and compassion can come together to change lives.
