Julia Child the American French Chef
On August 15, 2012 Google changed their logo to the “Julia Child” doodle. Today the Google Doodle is honoring the life and legacy of Julia Child. If you are hungry or on a diet we suggest that you steer clear of the Google homepage today. In the Julia Child Google doodle, the designer has created a feast of foods that are sure to make your hungry.
Julia Child August 15, 1912 – August 13, 2004
Today when I did some research about Julia Child I found an interesting description of who was Julia Child. One website described her as an exceptional chef with a great humor, a true original. Today we admire several chefs but Julia Child were the only one who could make pancakes, throw it, drop it and say sorry just to pick it up and continue as if nothing happened.
Julia Child was an American chef, author, and television personality who once said “I was 32 when I started cooking. Up until then, I just ate.” – Julia Child
- Today would have been her 100th Birthday.
- In 1996, Julia Child was ranked #46 on TV Guide’s 50 Greatest TV Stars of All Time.
- She is recognized for introducing French cuisine to the American public with her debut cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and her subsequent television programs, the most notable of which was The French Chef, which premiered in 1963.
- Julia Child’s kitchen, designed by her husband, was the setting for three of her television shows.
- In the classic 1968 thriller, No Way to Treat a Lady, she was mentioned by Lee Remick’s character Kate Palmer as “that Julia Child woman” whom Kate was desirious to take cooking tips from in order to prepare gourmet meals to impress her new boyfriend Detective Morriss Brummell, played by George Segal.
- In 1993, Child’s TV show was featured in the movie Mrs. Doubtfire, when Daniel Hillard/Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire (Robin Williams) is watching the show to learn gourmet cooking.
- Julia Child’s TV show is briefly portrayed in the 1986 movie, The Money Pit starring Tom Hanks and Shelley Long.
- In 1985 Madonna film Desperately Seeking Susan
- In 1991 comedy Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s dead.
- In 1966, she was featured on the cover of Time with the heading, “Our Lady of the Ladle”.
The above is just a few examples from the life of “Julia Child” she has had many more achievements and leaves behind a great legacy. The “Julia Child” Google Doodle is adding to that legacy that can now be added to her “accomplishments”.

In the Google Doodle one can see a cartoon like character representing “Julia Child”. The Google Doodle looks like it is a drawing from Julia Child’s Kitchen. In the doodle the Google words are made up with foods she was most famous for! All in all this Google Doodle made me really hungry and tonight I am going to prepare one of Julia Child’s recipies.
