The Johannesburg International Motor Show, which is being staged at the Expo Centre, Nasrec, is to open at 08h30 on Saturday instead of the usual opening time of 09:00.
The organisers, in consultation with the exhibitors, have taken this decision so as to enable visitors to come to the show earlier in view of the sporting events, such as the Absa Currie Cup final, which take place that afternoon.
The 2013 show is proving very popular and visitors this weekend will have the last opportunity to see a number of the concept cars before they are crated and shipped to Japan for the Tokyo Motor Show. Among the exhibitors sending cars directly from Johannesburg to Tokyo are Honda, Nissan, Citroën, Volkswagen, Audi and BMW.
“We are very happy with the turnout at the motor show this year and are expecting bumper crowds at the weekend,” commented the executive director of the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of SA, Nico Vermeulen. “This is the ninth staging of this biennial show and it has attracted 235 exhibiting companies, with 345 vehicles on show.
“An impressive 62 new vehicles have been launched since the show opened last Wednesday, while 18 concept cars have been brought to South Africa especially for the show, while 265 cars and 80 trucks, buses and light commercials are on show.”
The opening time on Sunday remains 09:00 and tickets can be purchased until 18:00 on both Saturday and Sunday, with the halls and gates closing at 19:00.
