Pretoria, South Africa – 16 October 2024: As the automotive industry undergoes a seismic transformation, JLR (Jaguar Land Rover) has announced a series of key appointments to its Executive Leadership Team. These strategic changes aim to bolster JLR’s leadership capabilities as the company navigates the transition to electrification and positions itself as a global leader in modern luxury automotive manufacturing.
Effective 21 October 2024, Steve Marsh has been appointed as Executive Director, Vehicle Programmes. Reporting directly to JLR’s CEO, Adrian Mardell, Marsh brings with him 36 years of industry expertise. Since joining JLR in April 2022, Marsh has led global manufacturing operations through a period of significant transformation, laying the groundwork for the company’s shift to electric vehicle (EV) production. Prior to his time at JLR, Marsh held senior positions at Nissan, where he was Senior Vice President of Manufacturing and Supply Chain.
Marsh expressed his enthusiasm for the new role: “The transformation of JLR to a global modern luxury automotive manufacturer is well underway. Delivering our next generation vehicles to the highest standard – across all touch points – is critical to our ongoing success. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead JLR’s global Vehicle Programmes teams at this once-in-a-generation moment of powertrain and industrial change.”

In addition to Marsh’s appointment, JLR has named Swarna Ramanathan as Chief Strategy Officer, effective 4 November 2024. Ramanathan will lead the company’s strategy creation, innovation, and collaborations as JLR refines its future-focused Reimagine strategy. A mechanical engineer with an MBA, Ramanathan has over 20 years of experience in growth strategy across automotive, consumer, and energy sectors. She joins JLR from McKinsey & Company, where she was a Partner and a leader in the firm’s Centre for Future Mobility.
Commenting on her new role, Ramanathan said: “As an experienced and passionate advocate for the automotive, consumer, and energy sectors, and a long-term follower of JLR, I am thrilled to be appointed Chief Strategy Officer at this important moment in JLR’s transformation to be a global modern luxury automotive leader. I look forward to playing a leading role in the evolution of the business’s Reimagine strategy for continued success.”
Ramanathan’s arrival allows Andrea Debbane, who joined JLR’s leadership team in August 2024 as interim Chief Strategy Officer, to fully focus on her position as Chief Sustainability Officer. Debbane’s continued leadership in sustainability reflects JLR’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility within the luxury automotive space.
To further strengthen its ability to execute its transformation strategy, JLR has created the new position of Chief Transformation and Performance Officer, appointing John Beswick to the role, effective 4 November 2024. Beswick, who previously served as Chief Financial Officer at Great Ormond Street Hospital, will report directly to CEO Adrian Mardell. Beswick brings a wealth of experience in transformational change, having spent two decades at BT Group in various finance and leadership positions, and is set to play a crucial role in ensuring the seamless alignment of JLR’s teams as the company advances its transformation agenda.
Beswick shared his excitement for the role: “I am delighted to be joining JLR as Chief Transformation and Performance Officer. Working alongside other members of the Executive Leadership Team and colleagues across JLR, my priority will be to lead the implementation of JLR’s strategy throughout the organisation, through seamless team alignment and collaboration.”
These appointments reflect JLR’s commitment to shaping the future of luxury automotive manufacturing in the face of the most significant transformation the industry has seen in over a century. CEO Adrian Mardell commented: “The transformation of the automotive sector is the greatest change in our industry in a century. Ensuring we have the right leaders, with the qualities and experience to deliver our modern luxury vision in the near-, medium-, and long-term will ensure JLR’s future health and prosperity. I offer my warmest congratulations to Steve, Swarna, and John on their appointments.”
As JLR accelerates its journey towards electrification and positions itself as a leader in modern luxury, these leadership changes mark a pivotal step in its ongoing evolution. With a focus on innovation, strategy, and performance, the company is poised to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in this rapidly changing automotive landscape.
