Pretoria, South Africa, 08 January 2025 – Jaguar TCS Racing has kicked off the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship with a resounding victory, as Mitch Evans triumphed in the opening round in Brazil. Starting from the back of the grid, Evans showcased his resilience, clinching a stunning victory that marked a winning debut for the Jaguar I-TYPE 7 in the highly anticipated GEN3 Evo era. This strong start to the season has not only placed Mitch in the lead of the Drivers’ standings but has also positioned Jaguar TCS Racing second in the Teams’ World Championship, with a commanding lead in the Manufacturers’ World Championship.
Looking Ahead: The 2025 Mexico City E-Prix
With the São Paulo E-Prix now in the rearview mirror, Jaguar TCS Racing turns its focus to the upcoming 2025 Mexico City E-Prix at the iconic Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit. At 2.63 kilometers long, the circuit presents unique challenges for drivers, and Jaguar TCS Racing has enjoyed a strong history at this venue. Last season, Nick Cassidy made an impressive debut with the team, finishing third and claiming the fastest lap, while Mitch Evans secured P5. The team’s record in Mexico is also bolstered by Mitch’s victory in 2020, making it a track where Jaguar TCS Racing has consistently delivered strong performances.
This year’s Mexico City E-Prix will take place at 14:05 ST (GMT -6 hours) on Saturday, 11 January 2025. Both Evans and Cassidy are eager to build on their previous successes and continue their pursuit of championship glory.
Team Principal’s Vision: A Winning Strategy for Mexico
James Barclay, Team Principal of Jaguar TCS Racing, shared his thoughts on the team’s performance so far and their strategy heading into Mexico:
“To come away from São Paulo leading two out of three championships was a great boost for the team. We know there is still a lot more to come, and we are working flat out to get the Jaguar I-TYPE 7 into the right window out on track. There is a lot of performance still to be unlocked, and we are working hard to try and be in a position to have another strong weekend in Mexico City,” said Barclay.
Barclay continued, “Mitch and Nick showed their class in the race in Brazil, and we are eager to come away from Mexico with a strong haul of points from both our drivers if we can. We enjoyed podium success last time out in Mexico City and would love to do so again this weekend. We never rest on our laurels, though, and have some areas to work on. As always, the competition is going to be very close, and we look forward to the challenge.”
Mitch Evans: Building on Momentum
For Mitch Evans, starting the season with a victory after a dramatic climb from the back of the grid has been a major boost, but he remains focused on the task ahead. “To start the season with a win – especially given the circumstances from last on the grid – was a special feeling. There’s no time to look back, though, and I am expecting it to be another closely fought race in Mexico. We will be working hard to achieve another strong result,” Evans remarked.
Nick Cassidy: Eager for Redemption
Although Nick Cassidy was unable to score points in São Paulo, the Kiwi driver remains confident in the pace of the Jaguar I-TYPE 7. “Although the São Paulo race did not end how we wanted it to, I know we have a fast race car. I am hopeful that we can find more performance in the Jaguar I-TYPE 7 and will be doing all I can to be on the podium in Mexico City,” Cassidy said.
