JAECOO, a standout name under the rapidly expanding Chery Group division O&J, is thrilled to announce the arrival of its latest innovation: the fully electric J6. This exciting addition to the brand’s lineup has been officially confirmed for the South African market, marking a significant step in JAECOO’s ongoing journey into the global new-energy vehicle space.
The J6 is more than just another electric vehicle; it’s a bold statement of JAECOO’s commitment to blending rugged capability with forward-thinking design. Equipped with a fully electric powertrain, this compact SUV is set to redefine the urban off-road experience for South African drivers. According to Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager for OMODA & JAECOO, “The exciting new JAECOO J6 will be revealed to the South African public at the upcoming Festival of Motoring, giving local enthusiasts an early opportunity to get up close and personal with this characterful battery-electric compact SUV.”

The J6 stands out with its retro-inspired exterior design, boxy proportions, and a deceptively spacious five-seater cabin. Inside, drivers will find a versatile interior complete with clever storage solutions, catering to both daily urban commutes and weekend adventures off the beaten path. The J6 seamlessly blends comfort with capability, embodying JAECOO’s identity as a brand that offers more than a typical crossover but with the added comfort of an urban off-roader.
This new model perfectly aligns with JAECOO’s established reputation for innovation in the urban off-road SUV segment. As Gahagan further explains, “Although we’re preparing to launch a plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) version of the J7 – which will push the brand into the local new-energy vehicle space – the upcoming J6 represents the next step for our growing line-up as it’s set to arrive as the first fully electric model to wear the JAECOO badge.”
JAECOO’s first model, the J7, made its debut in South Africa in April 2024 and has quickly gained traction in the local market. By July, the J7 had propelled JAECOO to the 26th spot among 54 automotive brands reporting new-vehicle sales figures to naamsa, the industry’s representative body. The anticipated arrival of the J6, along with other upcoming models, promises to drive the brand’s growth even further.
More details about the JAECOO J6 will be revealed at its official local unveiling during the Festival of Motoring in Gauteng. South African drivers can look forward to the J6 hitting the market in 2025, further solidifying JAECOO’s role as a pioneer in the new-energy vehicle sector.
