JAECOO 5 SHS-H Brings Full Hybrid Power to UK Line-up

JAECOO UK is expanding its compact SUV offering with the introduction of the new JAECOO 5 SHS-H, a full-hybrid variant designed to deliver greater efficiency and flexibility without compromising the brand’s signature practicality and everyday usability. Arriving on the back of a record-breaking period for the brand, including standout demand for the JAECOO 7 and strong momentum across its UK line-up, the latest addition reinforces JAECOO’s rapid rise in one of Europe’s most competitive automotive markets.

At the heart of the JAECOO 5 SHS-H is a self-charging full-hybrid system engineered for real-world driving conditions. The setup combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a dedicated DHT automatic transmission and a 1.83 kWh battery, producing a combined output of up to 165 kW. The result is a powertrain that prioritises smooth, predictable performance while intelligently managing energy use across urban streets, motorways and everything in between.

Efficiency is one of its defining strengths. With a total driving range of more than 650 miles from its 51-litre fuel tank and battery combination, the JAECOO 5 SHS-H is designed to significantly reduce refuelling stops while maintaining everyday convenience. Fuel economy of up to 53 mpg (WLTP) supports lower running costs, while a 0–62 mph time of just 7.9 seconds ensures the SUV still delivers confident acceleration when needed. It is a balance of economy and responsiveness aimed at drivers who want electrified efficiency without changing their driving habits.

Visually, the SHS-H model stays true to the existing JAECOO 5 design language, preserving its upright stance, broad shoulders and distinctive waterfall grille. The design continues to draw inspiration from natural terrain, giving the compact SUV a purposeful, grounded presence on the road. Customers will be able to choose from five exterior colours, including Granite White, Graphite Grey, Basalt Black, Copper Green and Lazuli Blue, with selected two-tone options adding further visual contrast.

Inside, the JAECOO 5 SHS-H mirrors the familiar structure of the existing model range, ensuring consistency across petrol, hybrid and electric variants. The Pure trim offers a strong foundation with a 13.2-inch portrait touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker SONY audio system and a full suite of driver assistance technologies. The Luxury trim elevates the experience with an eight-speaker SONY system, a large 1.45m² panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting and heated and ventilated front seats, enhancing comfort and refinement for longer journeys.

The launch comes during a period of accelerated growth for the JAECOO brand in the UK, following strong performance across its model range and the wider expansion of electrified offerings within the OMODA & JAECOO portfolio. The introduction of the SHS-H system further strengthens this strategy, joining both petrol and fully electric variants of the JAECOO 5 to create a more complete and adaptable line-up for UK customers.

According to Victor Zhang, Deputy CEO of Chery International UK, the goal behind the new model is simple: to make electrified driving feel effortless. The SHS-H system has been developed to deliver efficiency in everyday conditions, particularly in urban environments, without requiring drivers to adapt their routines or charging behaviour, reinforcing the idea of seamless hybrid mobility.

Pricing for the JAECOO 5 SHS-H starts from £26,270 OTR for the Pure trim and £29,765 OTR for the Luxury trim. UK customer deliveries are expected to begin from Q3 2026, with availability through OMODA & JAECOO UK’s nationwide dealer network of 124 locations. As with the rest of the brand’s line-up, the model is supported by a 7-year/100,000-mile vehicle warranty and an 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty, underlining long-term confidence in both engineering and electrified technology.
