In the commercial bakkie world, credibility is earned the hard way. It comes from early starts, long days, heavy loads and the kind of environments that test both machine and driver without mercy. JAC Motors understands this reality well, which is why the launch of the new T6 2.0L CTi single-cab marks more than just another product introduction. It signals the global arrival of a proven, fuel-efficient workhorse now available in right-hand-drive form, tailored for the demands of entrepreneurs, transport operators and fleet customers across Southern Africa and beyond.
Having already been introduced in left-hand-drive markets, the T6 single-cab is now rolling out globally in right-hand-drive configuration, answering a clear call from markets that prioritise durability, operating efficiency and dependable performance under pressure. With pricing starting at R299,900 (VAT incl.), the new T6 positions itself as a compelling value-for-money proposition in one of the most fiercely contested segments of the market.
A Proven Turbo-Diesel Built for Hard Use
At the heart of the new T6 single-cab is JAC’s familiar 2.0-litre direct-injection common-rail turbo-diesel engine, the same unit that has powered the T8 line-up since 2023. It is an engine designed with longevity and efficiency in mind, featuring an intercooler and an Electrical Variable Geometry Turbocharger that optimises response across the rev range.
With outputs of 102 kW at 3,600 rpm and 320 Nm of torque available from just 1,600 rpm through to 2,600 rpm, the T6 delivers its performance where it matters most. The torque curve is deliberately accessible, allowing drivers to make earlier gear changes and maintain momentum without constant shifting. Paired with a six-speed manual transmission, the drivetrain encourages a relaxed, unstrained driving style that pays dividends in real-world fuel consumption.
On the combined cycle, the T6 returns an average of 6.9 L/100 km, while its 76-litre fuel tank enables a driving range of more than 1,100 kilometres. Local testing has recorded figures as low as 6.1 L/100 km under mixed conditions, and just 8.0 L/100 km when carrying a 750 kg load, underlining its suitability for high-mileage fleet use.
As JAC Motors South Africa CEO Karl-Heinz Göbel explains, fuel efficiency remains the primary buying motivator in the workhorse bakkie segment. The T6’s low-down torque delivery and measured powerband directly address that priority, helping operators reduce running costs without compromising on usability.
Engineered for Versatility and Load-Carrying Confidence
The T6 single-cab is built on a robust, galvanised ladder-frame chassis with integral rear bridge support, providing the structural integrity required for consistent load-carrying and towing duties. Its suspension layout combines a double-wishbone independent front suspension with coil springs and a rear leaf-spring setup, striking a balance between handling stability, durability and comfort when laden.
Dimensionally, the T6 measures 5,315 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width and 1,815 mm in height, with a generous 3,090 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance stands at 197 mm, while a tight 6.2-metre turning radius makes the single-cab surprisingly manoeuvrable in urban environments, construction sites and depot yards.
The load box is equally purposeful. Measuring 2,260 mm long, 1,520 mm wide and 470 mm deep, it offers a full one-tonne payload and is finished with an anti-scratch, corrosion-resistant sprayed bed liner as standard. External rope hooks, cargo tie-down points and a rear step bumper come standard, while the Lux derivative adds a cab protector with integrated tie-down functionality. Riding on 245/65 R17 tyres, the T6 benefits from improved braking stability and reduced understeer when fully laden, with a braked towing capacity of up to 1,400 kg.
This combination of structural strength, practical dimensions and thoughtful load-area detailing gives the T6 genuine flexibility, whether it is serving as a delivery vehicle, a mobile workshop or a fleet workhorse operating far from urban centres.
A Cabin Designed Around the Driver
While ruggedness is non-negotiable in this segment, driver comfort is no longer a luxury. JAC has clearly recognised that a productive driver is a comfortable one, and the T6 single-cab’s interior reflects a pragmatic, driver-first approach.
The cabin is spacious and uncluttered, with standard features that include power steering, air-conditioning, electric windows and a height-adjustable, leather-trimmed multifunction steering wheel. Storage has been carefully considered, with space behind and beneath the seats complemented by a centre armrest and a closable centre console compartment.
Safety is addressed through dual front airbags, front disc and rear drum brakes, four-channel ABS and Electronic Brake-force Distribution. Additional features such as electrically adjustable mirrors with integrated indicators, halogen headlamps, a high-mounted stop lamp, rear fog lamps and headlight levelling contribute to visibility and peace of mind, while a driver seatbelt reminder reinforces everyday safety.
Both derivatives are equipped with an immobiliser, remote keyless entry, central locking with speed-sensing door locks, a multi-information display and rear park distance sensors. The Lux derivative adds a reverse camera and leatherette upholstery, enhancing convenience and perceived quality for buyers who spend long hours behind the wheel.
Connectivity and Everyday Convenience
Modern work vehicles are increasingly expected to double as mobile offices, and the T6 line-up reflects this shift. The T6 Lux features a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, allowing seamless smartphone connectivity for navigation, calls and media. The T6 Comfort is equipped with a radio and MP3 player with Bluetooth functionality, ensuring essential connectivity without unnecessary complexity.
Both models include USB and 12V power sockets housed within the centre console, keeping devices charged and cables neatly managed during long workdays.
Competitive Pricing and Ownership Peace of Mind
The new T6 2.0L CTi single-cab is offered with a five-year or 100,000 km manufacturer’s warranty, along with 24-hour roadside assistance for the same period. Service intervals are equally fleet-friendly, with the first service due at 10,000 km or 12 months, followed by intervals of 15,000 km or 12 months thereafter.
Pricing remains one of the T6’s strongest selling points. The T6 2.0L CTi 4×2 Comfort is priced at R299,900, while the better-equipped T6 2.0L CTi 4×2 Lux comes in at R314,900, both VAT inclusive. Four-wheel-drive derivatives are scheduled to join the line-up mid-year, expanding the range for customers who require enhanced off-road capability.
JAC Motors dealers also offer an approved selection of accessories, including canopies and cattle rails, allowing customers to tailor the T6 to their specific operational needs.
A Global Brand with a Regional Footprint
JAC Motors South Africa is supported by a network of more than 70 dealers across Southern Africa, including Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. This extensive footprint ensures consistent after-sales support and parts availability, a critical consideration for fleet operators and independent business owners alike.
Globally, JAC Motors brings more than six decades of automotive experience to the table. Founded 61 years ago in China, the brand now operates in over 130 countries, offering a comprehensive range of passenger vehicles, pick-ups and commercial trucks for both left- and right-hand-drive markets.
With the arrival of the new T6 single-cab, JAC reinforces its commitment to delivering dependable, efficient and competitively priced work vehicles. It is a bakkie shaped not by marketing hype, but by the realities of work, distance and durability, and for many operators, that may be its most convincing feature of all.
