With fuel prices climbing and economic pressures mounting, efficiency has never been more crucial. JAC Motors South Africa is meeting this challenge head-on with its fuel-efficient T-Series range. The newly launched T6 2.0L CTi single-cab joins the line-up, recording as little as 6.1 L/100 km in local testing, matching the T8 and T9 models that deliver 6.1 L/100 km and 6.2 L/100 km respectively at the Gerotek Testing Facilities. This consistency across the T-Series ensures that every customer can benefit from exceptional fuel economy, whether for work or lifestyle purposes.
JAC Motors has also been a pioneer in the local battery-electric truck market. Since 2021, over 60 JAC electric trucks have covered more than three million kilometres in South Africa, helping operators save over 50% in fuel, more than 70% in maintenance costs, and achieving a 12.75% reduction in total cost of ownership. These impressive figures demonstrate the brand’s commitment to delivering long-term savings and sustainable transport solutions.
Karl-Heinz Göbel, CEO of JAC Motors South Africa, highlights that the brand’s reputation for fuel economy has been a key driver in its growth over nearly a decade. “Our EV trucks strengthen this reputation, reinforcing the low cost of ownership across our range,” he explains.
In April 2025, JAC Motors broke the South African 24-hour endurance record for commercial vehicles, which had stood for 15 years. Its T9 2.0L CTi covered 4,084 km at an average speed of 170.1 km/h on the Gerotek oval track. Simultaneously, T8 and T9 models underwent fuel economy testing, achieving 1,246 km at 6.1 L/100 km and 1,226 km at 6.2 L/100 km respectively, underscoring the T-Series’ ability to combine endurance with efficiency.
Looking ahead, the T-Series expands further with the T9 PHEV, featuring a 31.2 kWh Gotion High-Tech LFP battery delivering around 100 kilometres of electric-only range. For city commuters, this can drop fuel consumption below 2 L/100 km, as the engine is used sparingly, making it one of the most fuel-efficient choices on the market. Göbel points out that even small savings translate into significant financial impact. “Saving just 2 L/100 km at a diesel price of R30 per litre equates to R6,000 over 10,000 km,” he notes.
Beyond efficiency, JAC Motors has maintained affordability and peace of mind for customers. Retail prices have not increased in over two-and-a-half years, and selected models come with extended warranties and service plans. The T6 2.0L CTi single-cab starts at R299,900 (VAT incl.), giving fleet operators access to both lower fuel and acquisition costs.
Supported by a network of over 70 dealers across Southern Africa, including independent operations in Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Malawi, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique, JAC Motors ensures high standards of after-sales service. Founded 61 years ago in China, the brand now operates in over 130 countries, offering a complete range of passenger cars, pick-ups, and trucks for diverse markets and maintaining strategic partnerships across the automotive industry.
JAC Motors’ T-Series proves that fuel efficiency, endurance, and affordability can coexist, giving South African drivers and businesses the power to save without compromise.
