Almost £3 million worth of classic, collector and performance cars were successfully sold at H&H Classics’ first auction of 2023. Among the classic car royalty, the 1968 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Drophead Coupe, first owned by Sir Michael Caine, was hammered away for £135,000, including premium, at the sale.

With strong demand across all vehicle marques, it was a 1923 Bentley 3 Litre Tourer which was among the top sellers of the day. The former Brooklands race winner sold for £157,500 including fees, more than £17,000 over its lower estimate. Meanwhile, a 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera Supersport Targa was another high performer, selling for £72,562 including buyers’ fees – a fantastic £22,500 over its lower estimate.

On offer with no reserve was a 1975 Rolls-Royce Phantom VI, with all proceeds going to the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI). Following a rapid-fire bidding war fought between a bidder on the phone and in the Duxford venue, it was not long before the Rolls-Royce sold to a round of applause for a final price of £84,375, including buyers’ fees.

“Our Duxford sale was a fantastic start to 2023, and we’re very pleased with the overall results,” comments Damian Jones, senior motorcar specialist, H&H Classics. “There were some real head-turning cars up for grabs which have now found new homes and start their next chapters of ownership.”

Alongside the classic and collector cars, the Fast Road collection of modern and future classics performed well, with cars included in this section fetching a combined value of over £800,000. Deserved headliner was the 1988 Ford RS200, 1 of just 49 LHD roadgoing examples, which made £160,000 including fees.

Of the more specialised race car replicas, the 2022 Ultima GTR and 2007 KVA GT40 Evocation were the stars of the show. After a short and sharp bidding war, the Ulitma GTR sold for £43,875 and the KVA GT40 went on to sell for £47,250, both to online bidders.

Jones concluded: “I’d like to thank our vendors and bidders for taking part in this sale as H&H Classics celebrates its 30th year of trading. We’re already getting ready for our next sale and looking forward to seeing what’s being hammered away.”

Preparations are already under way for the next classic, collector and performance car auction which is being held at The Pavilion Gardens, Buxton on Wednesday 26 April 2023.
