(Date), 2013: Internationally recognised commercial vehicle manufacturer Iveco will officially launch three new models to the local market at this year’s Johannesburg International Motor Show, being hosted at the Nasrec Expo Centre from 16 to 27 October 2013.
The Johannesburg International Motor Show is the largest international automotive event in Southern Africa, which is expected to attract up to 250 000 visitors. The show, which is held every two years, runs in conjunction with the Johannesburg Truck and Bus Show and Auto Shop – which collectively provide a full representation of the Sub Saharan Africa motoring industry.
The three new vehicles being launched locally at the show by Iveco South Africa include; the Iveco Stralis Hi-Way 500HP Euro 5 – which was named as the 2013 ‘International Truck of the Year’ winner, in addition to the Iveco Daily Euro 4 Minibus and the Iveco Trakker Hi-Land 6×4 Truck-Tractor with 6×4 rigid version. What’s more, visitors to the Iveco stand will also get a special sneak-peak of the company’s brand new EuroCargo 2014 truck, which is being officially launched next year.
Iveco South Africa managing director Bob Lowden notes that the event serves as the ideal platform for the company to launch the range. “The Johannesburg International Motor Show attracts thousands of important motoring enthusiasts, including; trade buyers, importers, distributors, dealership and workshop managers, fleet owners and private car owners, to name a few. Establishing a strong presence at this event will ensure that we are able to directly network and liaise with this vast range of existing and potentially new clients.”
Stralis Hi-Way
The Iveco Stralis Hi-Way was named International Truck of the Year 2013 by a group of 25 leading commercial vehicle journalists, representing 25 magazines throughout Europe, with a total readership of more 700 000 transport operators. The annual award is presented to the truck launched in the previous 12 months, which has made the greatest contribution to road transport efficiency with regards to; fuel economy, safety, driveability, comfort and a low carbon footprint.
“The Stralis Hi-Way’s ‘Hi-eSCr’ engines and the optimisation of its driveline components and improved cab aerodynamics, improve the truck’s fuel consumption according to internationally recognised Euro 5 emissions standards. What’s more, the redesigned cab offers a quiet and relaxing working environment for long haul drivers, while the advanced seven-inch dashboard touchscreen provides a user-friendly interface,” adds Lowden.
In addition, the ‘Driving Style Evaluation’ function of the Stralis Hi-Way’s telematics system allows the driver to adjust their driving style to achieve a better performance in terms of improving fuel economy, thereby addressing one of the main challenges faced by transport companies in today’s challenging business environment.
New Buses
The new and improved Euro 4 Daily Minibus, combines sturdiness, reliability and is built to European quality standards, the Iveco Daily Minibus is engineered for peak performance in every condition, by leveraging all available technology in terms of quality and safety. The vehicle boasts a comfortable and spacious interior for the driver and passengers, with a varied combination of doors, windows and internal heights. Tilting seats with armrest and headrest ensure further comfort for passengers. The South African specification includes standard luggage racks, an emergency roof hatch, individual seat lights and air conditioning.
The new Euro 5 Iveco bus with its 280hp front engine comfortably seats 65 commuters spaciously and luxuriously. This improved version boasts a truck chassis.
Trakker Hi-Land 6×4 Truck-Tractor
The 6×4 model can be equipped with all the engine variants, and can be fitted with air suspension on the tandem axle. In this case, the Trakker becomes a formidable tractor for exceptional loads. The 6×4 is available with six wheelbases, ranging from 3,2 m + 1,38 m to 4,8 m + 1,38 m. The Iveco Hi-Land 6×4 Truck-Tractor is ideally suited to the mining, quarrying and construction sectors.
Additional vehicles being displayed by Iveco South Africa at the event include the EuroCargo 4×4, the new Euro 5 Daily Camper Chassis, and the recently publicised Daily 4×4 – which was driven by the Italian-based expedition team Taurinorum Travel Agency, who spread the message of road safety during the 45 day, 11 000 km long tour across Southern Africa, as part of the Iveco sponsored Daily4Africa road show.
Daily 4×4 Track experience
These same vehicles will be showcased on Iveco’s custom designed 4×4 track at the event, where visitors will be given the opportunity to witness and experience the capabilities of the Daily 4×4 range first hand.
