October 2008 – There’s only one thing better than a fiesta and that’s a Ford Fiesta! This new baby marks the beginning of a new era of Ford cars that’ll blow you away. Think trendy, think fast and think fuel-friendly which means environmentally friendly.
The fabulous Ford Fiesta will be launched in Mzansi just weeks after its international debut with a choice of three engines and three trim levels, the Ambiente, the Trend and the Titanium.
Based on the Verve Concept, designers married looks with performance in a perfect partnership that gives the all-new Fiesta its presence and style. This sexy little number wears the distinctive, bold Ford ‘face’ with its signature grille and oval badge. The new ‘cat eye’ headlamps are pure sci-fi-meets-James-Bond and the chrome work is cutting-edge contemporary. This car will turn heads as sharply as it’ll slip you through traffic.
The interior is just as stylish. The Fiesta takes its inspiration from designer clothing to create an uber-urban feel with dynamic lines and bold graphics. The design of the main controls takes its cue from the world of modern consumer electronics. The eye-catching instrument panel centre stack draws on the design language and intuitive operation of mobile phones and personal music players and houses the car’s Human Machine Interface (HMI), linked to a multi-function display screen in a high-mounted binnacle, close to the field of vision. It’s more cockpit than car cabin.
One of the biggest challenges for the design team was to improve the interior space without increasing the overall dimensions of the car. The result? Plenty of storage space for all the odds and ends you desire and some seriously impressive legroom. At just over a metre even Minki would sit comfortably in this cab.
Safety has never looked so good; using high-strength steel throughout the car to protect you in the event of a collision, the safety package includes dual front airbags for driver and passenger, three-point safety belts, anti-submarining front seat design with whiplash optimisation as well as ABS brakes with Electronic Brake Force Distribution.
There are three engines to choose from. The 1.6 petrol engine has loads of vooma, (0 to 100 in less than 10 seconds), the 1.4-litre petrol engine offers great fuel efficiency and big green cred while the 1.6-litre diesel model is even more frugal with fuel and bigger on the green cred. Plus you get a comprehensive 4yr / 120 000km warranty and 4 yr / 60 000km service plan with service intervals staggered at 20 000km intervals for the petrol models and 15 000km for the diesel model.
Getting from A to B just got a whole lot sexier, more affordable and oh-so-much greener.
