Mazda has unveiled its long-anticipated electric vehicle (EV) at the Brussels Motor Show – the Mazda6e, a sleek and stylish five-door hatchback that marks the brand’s commitment to an electrified future. Available in select European markets this year, the Mazda6e will arrive in the UK in the first half of 2026, further expanding Mazda’s growing range of battery electric vehicles (BEVs). With its sophisticated design, advanced powertrains, and a driver-focused approach, the Mazda6e blends the brand’s legendary craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology.
A Fresh Take on a Popular Name
The Mazda6e represents a bold evolution of the Mazda6, a model that won the hearts of European and UK customers over three generations between 2002 and 2023. Mazda’s new electric variant retains the spirit of its predecessor, but with a futuristic twist. The flowing exterior design, sleek cabin, and focus on driving enjoyment ensure that the Mazda6e will carry the legacy of the Mazda6 while introducing an entirely new chapter for the brand.
Powertrain Choices for Every Preference
The Mazda6e offers two battery options to cater to diverse customer needs. For those looking for efficiency and range, the 68.8kWh version delivers up to 300 miles on a single charge, while a quick 22-minute DC fast charge boosts the battery from 10 to 80 percent, providing an impressive 145 miles of additional range in just 15 minutes. Powered by a 258ps electric motor, this version accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 7.6 seconds, offering an engaging and efficient drive.
For longer journeys, the 80kWh variant extends the range up to 345 miles, with a more powerful 244ps motor that reaches 62mph in 7.8 seconds. Both powertrains produce a generous 320Nm of torque, ensuring ample performance, while the rear-wheel drive layout guarantees an exhilarating driving experience. The 80kWh model also supports DC rapid charging, with a 45-minute charge time for 10 to 80 percent capacity.
Mazda’s Kodo Design Language, Elevated
Designed under the philosophy of ‘Electrifying Design Crafted to Perfection,’ the Mazda6e introduces the latest evolution of Mazda’s Kodo Soul of Motion design language. This new electric model exudes a refined, dynamic presence with smooth, flowing lines and bold design cues. The low roofline and short-deck coupe silhouette create a sporty look without sacrificing the practicality of a five-door hatchback.
Frameless doors, integrated door handles, and a bold lighting signature elevate the car’s modern, seamless appearance. At the front, the new glowing signature wing lights, which flutter when charging, offer a unique visual identity, indicating the car’s charge status. The sleek silhouette is accentuated by parallel lines running along the car’s sides, and the aerodynamic 19-inch wheels provide a sporty, yet efficient design.
At the rear, the stylish horizontal taillight bar and distinctive rear lamp design ensure the Mazda6e stands out in any setting. Additionally, the electronically extendable rear spoiler enhances stability at high speeds while adding to the car’s refined aesthetic.

A Cabin Designed for Modern Living
Inside, the Mazda6e is a sanctuary of modern luxury and technology. The cabin is designed to flood with natural light, thanks to a panoramic roof that amplifies the sense of space. Inspired by the Japanese concept of ‘Ma,’ which celebrates the beauty of empty space, the interior’s floating center console and instrument panel create an airy ambiance, while premium materials throughout reflect Mazda’s dedication to quality.
The driver-centric cockpit features a 14.6-inch touchscreen and a 10.2-inch instrument display, complemented by an augmented reality head-up display. Whether in the Takumi or Takumi Plus trim, the cabin offers comfort and elegance, with options for beige or black artificial leather, and premium tan Nappa leather in the higher trim.
Practicality Meets Style
Despite its sleek design, the Mazda6e does not compromise on practicality. The spacious 330-litre boot, combined with a 70-litre front boot, offers ample storage space for daily needs and longer trips. Passengers are treated to generous legroom, ensuring that comfort is never sacrificed in the pursuit of style.
A Driver-Focused Experience
True to Mazda’s reputation, the Mazda6e is engineered to deliver an engaging and enjoyable driving experience. The suspension, power steering, and braking systems have been carefully tuned by Mazda Research Europe in Frankfurt, ensuring the car is optimised for European and UK driving preferences. As Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director of Mazda Motors UK, noted: “The Mazda6e is the car our dealers have been waiting for… it’s a real statement of intent for the future and illustrates how Mazda can bring great design, technology, and style to battery electric vehicles.”
A Timely Addition to the Mazda Line-Up
The Mazda6e marks a significant milestone in the brand’s transition to electrification. As the UK faces unique challenges in balancing EV legislation and consumer demand, Mazda is committed to meeting those challenges with vehicles like the Mazda6e. With its combination of performance, style, and practicality, the Mazda6e will be an important addition to the UK market when it arrives in 2026, fitting seamlessly into Mazda’s diverse portfolio of mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric vehicles.
The Mazda6e is more than just a car—it is a vision of the future, where Mazda’s commitment to excellence in design and driving pleasure meets the growing demand for sustainable mobility. The return of the Mazda6, now as a BEV, promises to be a game-changer in the electric vehicle market.
