At the 2024 IAA Hanover, Kia has marked a significant milestone with the European debut of its Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) concept. This new range of purpose-built electric vehicles (EVs) is set to revolutionize the light commercial vehicle (LCV) market, offering a comprehensive solution for both business and private customers. The showcase featured the PV5, PV5 People Mover, PV5 High Roof, and PV7 concepts, all embodying Kia’s innovative approach to electric mobility.
Innovative Designs and Robust Features
The Kia PBV concept vehicles are engineered to meet diverse business needs with unparalleled functionality and efficiency. Built on a dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) platform, these models can be customized with varying wheelbase lengths to suit different applications. From small urban delivery vans to larger transportation units, the PBVs promise superior driveability and maneuverability, making them ideal for both city and highway use.
Kia’s PBVs are backed by a seven-year or 150,000 km warranty, reflecting the brand’s confidence in their durability and reliability. Customers will benefit from advanced features such as a highly adaptable multi-tasking cockpit that can transform into a mobile workspace, ensuring productivity on the go.
Charging Efficiency and Infrastructure
Charging convenience is a cornerstone of Kia’s PBV strategy. The vehicles will leverage the Kia Charge network, providing access to over 780,000 charging points across 28 European countries. With ultra-fast charging capabilities, a PBV can recharge from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes, allowing for quick top-ups during busy schedules. Additionally, the PBVs will feature 22kW AC and 150kW DC fast charging options, enhancing operational efficiency.
Kia’s integration of Plug & Charge technology simplifies the charging process by initiating it with a single plug-in. The Kia EV Route Planner further supports this convenience by guiding drivers to the nearest available charging station. Fleet operators will also benefit from depot charging solutions, optimizing the charging process for multiple vehicles at a central location.

Advanced Connectivity and Fleet Management
In a move to further enhance fleet management, Kia has announced a strategic partnership with Geotab. This collaboration will integrate advanced data solutions, innovative systems, and route optimization tools into Kia PBVs. Geotab’s expertise in connected transportation will provide fleet operators with valuable insights and technologies to improve operational efficiency and driver safety.
The PBVs will feature a new Android OS-based head unit, an AI-powered voice assistant, and predictive maintenance capabilities. Over-the-air updates will ensure that the latest technologies are always available, while Digital Key 2.0 allows for remote and shared access to the vehicles. These features, combined with the ability to add apps via the Android app market, will offer a highly customizable and user-friendly experience.
Versatility and Productivity
Kia’s PBVs are designed to maximize productivity with their flexible configurations and ample cargo space. The vehicles will be available in various layouts and dimensions, tailored to meet specific business requirements such as refrigerated transportation, leisure use, or wheelchair accessibility. A new technical collaboration with the Petit Forestier Group will advance the development of refrigerated PBV versions, benefiting from over a century of expertise in cold chain logistics.
Kia’s commitment to customer satisfaction extends to a dedicated B2B network, providing specialized workshops, extended service hours, and expert staff. This network, along with predictive maintenance through OTA capabilities, ensures that PBV users experience minimal downtime and optimal vehicle performance.
A Future-Focused Vision
Kia’s PBV initiative aligns with the brand’s Plan S strategy, which focuses on expanding its electric vehicle lineup. By delivering on the pillars of Drive, Charge, Connect, and Work, Kia is setting a new benchmark in the LCV sector. The PBV concept vehicles are set to go into production in summer 2025, heralding a new era of business mobility solutions that promise efficiency, reliability, and innovation.
