The fourth edition of AERO South Africa, held from July 3rd to 5th, 2024, showcased the dynamic Southern African general aviation sector. Organized by Messe Frankfurt South Africa in collaboration with Fairnamic, the event drew inspiration from Europe’s largest general aviation show, Aero Friedrichshafen.
This year’s event boasted a robust three-day program featuring insightful panel discussions with industry experts, engaging visitor Fly-Ins, exciting demo flights, a Youth Development program, and the introduction of the General Aviation Indaba. The event attracted over 2,900 visitors from 22 countries, providing them with the opportunity to engage in pivotal aviation-related discussions with key industry figures. The diverse array of topics was well-received, with standout sessions including the inaugural General Aviation Indaba, the Women and Drones panel discussion, the Safety First Aviator session, and presentations by Airbus and ExecuJet.
AERO South Africa continues to expand, attracting over 71 exhibitors, including 11 international participants. The quality of visitors was particularly notable, drawing 640 pilots, including 233 commercial pilots, 335 recreational pilots, and 70 business pilots. Additionally, 47 Fly-Ins and 140 business matchmaking meetings underscored the event’s importance, solidifying its status as the premier annual gathering for the Southern African General Aviation sector.

The Youth Development Program at AERO South Africa was a resounding success once again. Students passionate about general aviation had the opportunity to learn from multiple industry speakers. This year’s program featured curated topics specifically designed for young attendees, such as Aircraft Maintenance & Engineering, Drone Training, and Pilot Navigation.
Louise Olckers, the Show Director, remarked, “As we conclude the 4th edition of AERO South Africa, I am immensely proud of the strides we have made in showcasing the vitality and innovation within the General Aviation sector. The enthusiasm and support from our exhibitors, visitors, and partners have been truly inspiring. Looking ahead, we are committed to building on this momentum and making AERO South Africa even bigger and better, driving growth and fostering connections within our vibrant aviation community. We look forward to welcoming you to the 2025 edition and continuing this exciting journey together.”
Christiaan van der Wath, Deputy Director of Aerospace Sector Support for the City of Tshwane, added, “The City of Tshwane is optimistic about expanding the local general aviation sector as the AERO General Aviation Exhibition successfully concluded on Friday, July 5th.”
AERO South Africa eagerly anticipates welcoming the sector back from June 25th to 27th, 2025, for the fifth edition of AERO South Africa.
