Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany – 19 November 2025 – The fire and rescue services of Mülheim an der Ruhr have welcomed three specially converted INEOS Grenadier 4X4s, marking a significant enhancement to the city’s first response and reconnaissance capabilities. The fleet includes two Grenadier Station Wagons and a Quartermaster double cab pick-up, each modified to tackle extreme terrain and demanding emergency situations.
The vehicles, supplied and upgraded by INEOS retail partner LETECH GmbH & Co KG of Welzheim, have undergone extensive modifications to ensure they meet the operational needs of search and rescue teams working in a region increasingly affected by flooding and landslides. One Station Wagon and the Quartermaster pick-up feature a portal axle system that lifts ground clearance by 186mm to 450mm and increases maximum wading depth from 800mm to 1,050mm, enabling access to areas previously out of reach.
“Critical in Extreme Conditions”
“The region has suffered severe flood disasters in recent years, including the catastrophe in the Ahr Valley and Eschweiler in 2021,” explains Dr. Michael Lülf, Fire Director of the Mülheim professional fire service and Deputy Head of the fire service. “It’s critical that we can get our crews and their equipment across disaster-stricken terrain to carry out urgent life-saving work. After an intensive selection process, we chose the INEOS Grenadier for its off-road ability, cable winch, auxiliary power, and 3.5-tonne towing capacity. The Grenadier is a unique emergency vehicle for extreme conditions.”
Purpose-Built for Fire & Rescue
LETECH’s modifications extend beyond the portal axle system. The vehicles are finished in high-visibility red with reflective emergency markings and outfitted with a suite of specialist accessories, including:
- Reflective yellow roof racks carrying standby light bars, arc lights, and working lamps.
- Multi-function rear ladder with a 20L cannister holder for additional water or diesel.
- Rock sliders with steps and hi-lift jacking points.
- BFGoodrich KM3 Mud Terrain tyres.
- 40mm LETECH X Reiger Suspension Lift Kit.
Internally, secure drawer systems provide additional storage for operational equipment, while advanced communication technology from Brockmann ensures crews remain connected in the most challenging environments.
One Grenadier Station Wagon and the Quartermaster pick-up benefit from LETECH’s portal axle kit, forged beadlocking alloy wheels, and a tyre pressure regulation system, enhancing the vehicles’ already impressive off-road credentials. By lifting componentry away from the wheel hubs, these modifications provide class-leading ground clearance and wading capability, crucial in flood-affected zones.
A Trusted Partner for Professional Services
Christian Blank, INEOS Automotive Regional Director Europe, commented: “We are proud that the people we rely on, rely on Grenadier. Our fire and rescue services need a vehicle they can trust in any environment. This shows how versatile the Grenadier is for a wide variety of professional service operators in the most demanding sectors. Already immensely capable out of our Hambach factory, Grenadier’s body-on-frame construction lends itself to specialist modifications with ease.”
Since its launch in 2022, the INEOS Grenadier has combined rugged British design with German engineering precision, delivering a global 4X4 platform that has quickly become a trusted vehicle for emergency services, police forces, and offshore rescue operators. The Quartermaster double cab pick-up, introduced in 2023, adds further versatility, making Grenadier a go-to solution for challenging operational requirements.
