Since the introduction of the popular Hyundai Getz at the Geneva Motor Show in 2002, this little heartbreaker has sold over 550,000 units world-wide. The Getz is currently the biggest selling model in the Hyundai range. True to the high standard that Hyundai Motor Company has set over the past few years, the new Getz has been designed to grow and build upon that success…

The new styling package increases and emphasizes youth appeal through a more European and sporty look.

Hyundai and the supermini segment

The super-mini segment currently accounts for approximately 26 % of all new vehicle sales throughout Europe alone. The Hyundai Getz has firmly established itself in this extremely competitive segment over the past 4 years. In South Africa, the Getz has also demonstrated a remarkable ability to appeal to almost all of the diverse cultural and economic criteria across our country. The Getz has become synonymous with the Hyundai virtues of durability, dependability, all-round economy, high value and enjoyable motoring.

The new Getz offers customers a fresher, more stylish exterior, combined with a significantly improved interior choice and increased performance. The overall result is a car fully capable of making even more new friends for Hyundai in South Africa.

New exterior design and styling

The extensive exterior facelift has been skillfully executed to preserve the original clean good looks of the Getz, while bringing it more into line with the new fresh European styling expectations.

The new fully-integrated frontal treatment features a redesigned hood with marked character lines which emphasize the unified nature of the grille, front headlight and bumper arrangement. The clear, wraparound headlamps, black bumper inserts and front bumper with integrated fog lamps give the front a cleaner and sportier look.

From the side, the strong shoulder line contour unifies the whole structure, while dominant black waist-mouldings add to the feeling of strength and stability. The rear features a neater wraparound bumper and new, clearer combination rear lights further optimize signal visibility.

Four new mica pearl finishes, Space Silver, Blue Onyx, Midnight Grey and Sky Blue, head this new range and emphasis has been on mixing traditional good taste with youthful exuberance.

New Interior features and colours

Hyundai Motor Company not only listens to the wishes and desires of customers, but implements their suggestions and feedback. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in the fresh new design of the Getz interior.

A new improved texture fascia heads up the immediate and most visible improvements. In addition, instrument panel has been redesigned and features a new repositioned and redesigned center cluster with a trip computer, fuel gauge and ancillary warning lights.

The center console has been thoughtfully redesigned. It features a new digital clock, more visible hazard warning button and the conveniently relocated cigar lighter.

Storage

The Getz has received high praise for its versatility and storage capabilities from the beginning. Along with the refinement of these features, Hyundai includes a new center console tray that adds space for extra small items.

The glove-box is now illuminated. The Getz offers its driver flat folding rear seats with 60/40 split capability, dual height driver seats, and the Space Wizard –design with multiple rear seat folding capability offering exceptional flexibility and comfort. With the rear seats folded double, there is an impressive 977 litres of useable luggage space. Together, these features ensure that the Getz remains among the forefront of this class.

  1. Shopping bag hook
  2. Complete new Engine

The new sporty 1.4 liter engine in the Getz is the biggest reason for the excitement in South Africa. The new Getz 1.4 liter engine delivers 71.3 kW @ 6000 rpm with 125.5 Nm torque @ 3200 rpm.

Designed and developed with major input from the Hyundai R&D Center in Germany this new Getz is a truly refreshing new addition. The sporty 1.6 liter Getz offers 78kW @ 5800 rpm with 144.2 Nm @ 3200 rpm and is available in manual as well as automatic transmission.

Safety

From the very beginning, the Getz was designed to offer maximum passenger and pedestrian protection. In keeping with Hyundai policy, repeated computer simulations and prototype testing resulted in a basic structure which combined intense rigidity (58.3% of the total car weight is high tensile steel) with integrated crumple zones and load path impact diffusion.

Occupant protection has been further augmented by strengthening the dual height, high-efficiency side impact protection bars. The 1.4 Liter entry level model features a de-powered driver airbag and dual airbags on the rest of the range have been added to the safety package.

This system has been made even safer for younger passengers by the addition of an airbag on/off switch for the front passenger seat. The new Getz is fitted with a positive rack and pinion steering with MacPherson strut front suspension.

Both the high spec 1.4 liter and the 1.6 liter automatic and manual transmissions offer drivers a 4-channel ABS with electronic brake force distribution (EBD) for increased road handling and better control in emergency braking and turning situations on slippery road surfaces.

Standard features on the Getz range include power steering, electric windows, air-conditioning and central locking. The Getz also come standard with a 2 year 45 000km service plan and a 5 year 150 000km factory warranty.
