SEOUL, October 25, 2024 – Today, Hyundai Motor Company’s N division unveiled the RN24, a next-generation “Rolling Lab” that signifies the brand’s bold future in high-performance electric vehicles (EVs). This unveiling, part of Hyundai’s annual “N Day” event, highlights Hyundai N’s unique approach to pushing the boundaries of EV technology, drawing inspiration from motorsport while catering to everyday driving.
RN24: A Technological Leap
As the latest in Hyundai’s innovative series of Rolling Labs, the RN24 combines cutting-edge performance with a distinctive rally-inspired design. It pairs the advanced power electronics (PE) system of the IONIQ 5 N with a World Rally Championship (WRC)-inspired chassis, delivering a compact, agile EV aimed at providing exhilarating performance and precise control. RN24 builds on Hyundai N’s three pillars – Corner Rascal, Racetrack Capability, and Everyday Sportscar – a trifecta that captures the brand’s pursuit of an engaging, EV-powered driving experience.
“Hyundai N is not just a brand but a representation of our commitment to innovation and high performance,” said Manfred Harrer, Executive Vice President and Head of the Genesis and Performance Development Tech Unit. “RN24 is a testament to our bold ambitions for the future.”
Compact Power in a Lightweight Chassis
The RN24 embodies Hyundai N’s vision for compact, high-performance EVs. By utilizing the 650 PS dual-motor PE system from the IONIQ 5 N, Hyundai’s engineers have succeeded in integrating substantial power into a B-segment, rally-inspired chassis that maximizes drivability and agility. The reimagined battery pack maintains an 84 kWh capacity, achieving a shorter 2,660 mm wheelbase that brings it to a level comparable with Hyundai’s i20 N Rally1 WRC model.
This concept of blending high power with lightweight design positions RN24 as a laboratory of sorts, where Hyundai N can test ideas for the next generation of electric sports cars. The goal is to bring a compact, lightweight vehicle that’s as thrilling as it is precise.

Motorsport Technology Meets Everyday Performance
RN24’s advanced chassis system features rally-spec dampers and a robust, high-rigidity subframe, alongside a bespoke WRC-inspired suspension. The car’s PE Powertrain Drive Control Logic allows drivers to fine-tune PE Power, Acceleration Sensitivity, and Regenerative Brake Sensitivity directly from the steering wheel. This flexibility replicates the control features of Hyundai’s WRC contenders, offering a heightened driving experience adaptable to various road conditions.
One of the unique aspects of RN24 is the electronic “Rally Mode,” which optimizes torque distribution across all four wheels. This setup streamlines torque management, mirroring the technology of Hyundai’s i20 N Rally1’s mechanical systems for a more refined, cost-effective solution in potential future road models.
Enhanced Sound and Aesthetic Innovation
Adding to the immersive experience, RN24 includes an upgraded sound system with two additional side speakers beyond the IONIQ 5 N’s N Active Sound+ setup. A rear fender design serves as an acoustic soundbox, delivering an enhanced audio profile that resonates with the vehicle’s dynamic capabilities.
Designed with an exposed roll cage inspired by WRC rally cars, RN24’s rigid exoskeleton bolsters occupant safety while also supporting stability in high-speed maneuvers. Elantra N 19-inch matte black forged wheels contribute to the vehicle’s strong aesthetic, complementing the motorsport-derived design elements.
The Future of High-Performance EVs
RN24, with its compact design, rally-inspired chassis, and finely tuned control systems, represents Hyundai N’s commitment to innovating within the high-performance EV space. This Rolling Lab is not only a showcase of Hyundai’s latest technologies but also an affirmation of the brand’s dedication to enriching the driving experience with EVs that are both thrilling and approachable.
As Joon Park, Vice President of N Brand Management Group, summarized, “RN24 exemplifies Hyundai N’s commitment to advancing electric motorsport technology by prioritizing the driving experience rather than spec numbers. This Rolling Lab proves that there remains untapped potential for high-performance EVs, and with new technologies ahead, there is much to look forward to.”
