LEATHERHEAD, October 3rd, 2024 – Hyundai Motor UK has officially unveiled the pricing and specifications for its latest innovation: the INSTER, Hyundai’s first small electric SUV designed specifically for the European market. With a strong focus on practicality, performance, and cutting-edge technology, the INSTER promises to be a game-changer in the small EV segment, offering up to 229 miles of range, rapid charging, and a host of features aimed at urban drivers and those seeking longer, hassle-free journeys.

Performance and Range
The Hyundai INSTER sets a new standard for small electric SUVs, delivering a projected range of up to 229 miles on a single charge in its Long-Range variant. Equipped with a 42kWh battery as standard and an optional 49kWh battery for enhanced power and range, INSTER ensures that customers spend less time charging and more time on the road. This efficiency is further optimised with Hyundai’s High Efficiency Heat Pump and Battery Heating System, standard across the lineup, which helps maintain performance in varying weather conditions.

Powered by a single electric motor, the INSTER offers two outputs depending on the chosen battery size: 97PS (71.1 kW) for the 42kWh version and 115PS (84.5 kW) for the 49kWh model, with both options delivering a solid 147 Nm of torque for responsive acceleration and driving dynamics. The advanced DC fast-charging capability ensures shorter recharge times, providing convenience for drivers on the go.

Design and Interior Innovation
Hyundai’s design philosophy is clearly reflected in the INSTER’s robust and contemporary look. Its sleek SUV profile is paired with signature pixel-design details reminiscent of Hyundai’s IONIQ family, along with bold front and rear skid plates. The LED daytime running lights and pixel-graphic turn signals, along with the available two-tone exterior finish and contrasting black roof, make INSTER stand out in the cityscape.

Inside, the INSTER offers a blend of technology and flexibility. The 10.25-inch digital cluster and 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with navigation provide seamless connectivity, complemented by Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The compact centre console integrates a wireless charging dock, ensuring that devices are always powered. INSTER’s interior is designed for maximum versatility with fold-flat seats—including the driver’s seat—providing ample space for luggage or other needs. For added personalisation, customers can choose customizable upper door trim garnishes and select between various cloth and leatherette seat materials.

Advanced Technology
The INSTER stands at the forefront of its segment with a comprehensive suite of technology, including Hyundai’s Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system, which allows customers to power external devices such as laptops, e-bikes, or camping equipment directly from the car’s battery. This bi-directional charging functionality offers both internal and external power options without the need for additional equipment.

Moreover, Hyundai has equipped the INSTER with an extensive array of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), elevating both safety and convenience. From the Surround View Monitor (SVM) and Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA-R) to Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA 1.5) and Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop and Go, the INSTER offers peace of mind for urban and long-distance driving alike. Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), and Highway Driving Assist (HDA 1.5) ensure the INSTER remains centered and at a safe distance from surrounding vehicles during highway journeys, while Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) provide additional security in tight spaces.

Trim Levels and Pricing
The INSTER will be available in two distinct trim levels: INSTER 01 and INSTER 02. Starting at £23,495, the INSTER 01 features 15-inch alloy wheels, a 10.25-inch digital display, rear parking sensors, smart cruise control, and a host of other premium features. The 49kWh version of the INSTER 01, priced at £25,045, offers a more powerful motor and increased range of 220 miles.

The INSTER 02, starting from £26,745, builds on the INSTER 01 with enhancements such as 17-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, LED projection headlamps, ambient lighting with 64 colour options, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. The optional Tech Pack introduces additional features like internal Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality and Hyundai’s Digital Key system, allowing customers to unlock and start their car with a compatible smartphone.

A Look to the Future
As Hyundai continues to expand its electric vehicle offerings, the INSTER represents a significant milestone for the brand in the small EV SUV market. Ashley Andrew, President of Hyundai & Genesis UK, noted, “INSTER is not only our small EV SUV for the UK market but is also our first fully electrified city car, albeit with a range and fast-charging abilities that provide customers with the confidence to embark upon longer journeys. Early feedback from the INSTER Roadshow suggests that the combination of design, equipment, and price point is already generating excitement in showrooms.”

With prices starting at £23,495 and PCP finance options available from £249 a month, the Hyundai INSTER offers an affordable and well-rounded entry into the electric vehicle market, combining style, technology, and practicality for today’s eco-conscious drivers.
