Hyundai Automotive South Africa is deepening its engagement with the country’s small business sector through a strategic partnership with Build It, positioning the Hyundai GRAND i10 Cargo as a practical, cost-effective mobility solution for entrepreneurs who need more than just transport.
Rather than relying solely on traditional dealership environments, the initiative brings Hyundai’s light commercial offering directly into the everyday spaces where small and medium enterprises already operate. From hardware stores to building supply outlets, the brand is embedding itself within the real-world ecosystems that keep South Africa’s SME economy moving.
According to CEO Stanley Anderson, this approach reflects a broader evolution in how the brand connects with customers, particularly those in the entrepreneurial space. He noted that demand from SMEs continues to grow, driven by the need for reliable and efficient mobility that supports day-to-day business operations without unnecessary cost burden. Through the Build It partnership, Hyundai is effectively meeting these customers on their own turf, making access to practical vehicle solutions more immediate and relevant.
One of the most compelling stories to emerge from the initiative comes from Rustenburg entrepreneur Arthur Seabelo, who owns a concrete manufacturing business. While purchasing building materials at a Build It store, Seabelo entered a national Win-a-Car competition that rewarded customers who spent R500 or more across participating outlets. Out of nearly 6,000 entries submitted across the country, he emerged as the winner of a brand-new Hyundai GRAND i10 Premium Cargo.
For Seabelo, the prize represents far more than a fortunate draw. It is a direct investment in the operational capacity of his business. He explained that the vehicle will allow him to deliver materials more efficiently, expand his client reach, and take on larger projects with greater confidence. In his view, the GRAND i10 Cargo is not simply a vehicle but a functional business tool that supports growth and scalability.
Interestingly, Seabelo’s connection with Hyundai is not new. He previously owned two Hyundai ACCENT models, which he credits for their reliability and hassle-free ownership experience. He also highlighted his positive interactions with Hyundai dealership staff over the years, reinforcing a sense of trust built through consistent performance and service.
From a product perspective, Hyundai Automotive South Africa’s National Corporate Sales Manager, Samantha Brits, emphasised the strong performance of the GRAND i10 Cargo in the highly competitive light commercial vehicle segment. Built on the foundation of the popular GRAND i10 passenger model, the Cargo variant is converted into a compact panel van designed specifically with small enterprise mobility needs in mind.
With more than 1,200 litres of cargo space and fuel consumption of approximately 5.5 litres per 100 kilometres, the vehicle is engineered to balance practicality with efficiency. This makes it particularly suited to businesses that require frequent deliveries, cost control, and urban manoeuvrability without compromising on load capacity.
The timing of this initiative aligns with the broader economic significance of SMEs in South Africa. With an estimated 2.6 million small and medium enterprises contributing around 34% to the country’s GDP and supporting over 11 million jobs, the sector remains one of the most critical pillars of national economic activity. In this context, mobility solutions like the GRAND i10 Cargo play a subtle but vital role in enabling productivity, connectivity, and business expansion at ground level.
By integrating its offering into retail environments like Build It and rewarding real-world customer engagement, Hyundai is reinforcing its position not just as a vehicle manufacturer, but as a practical partner in the everyday growth journeys of South African entrepreneurs.
