Johannesburg, 11 May 2026. Hyundai Automotive South Africa has congratulated the Junior Springboks after the national Under-20 side secured a historic first U20 Rugby Championship title in Gqeberha on Saturday.
The Junior Boks claimed the crown following a thrilling 29-29 draw against New Zealand at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, capping off an unbeaten tournament campaign that saw the South Africans finish top of the standings with 13 log points.
South Africa’s Under-20 side delivered an impressive attacking display throughout the competition, scoring more than 130 points across the tournament. Dominant victories over Argentina and Australia laid the foundation before the team held firm against a determined New Zealand comeback in the final round.
As the official vehicle partner of Hyundai Automotive South Africa, the company supported the squad’s transport and logistical requirements during the tournament in the Eastern Cape, helping ensure players and management travelled efficiently between training sessions, match venues and operational commitments. Tiny convoy of ambition rolling through the province like a diesel-powered victory parade.
Stanley Anderson, CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa, praised the team for its determination and composure throughout the competition.
“This is a fantastic achievement for the Junior Springboks and for South African rugby. To complete the tournament unbeaten and lift the trophy against world-class opposition reflects the incredible character and talent within this squad,” said Anderson.
He added that Hyundai’s partnership with SA Rugby reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to youth development and national pride.
“At Hyundai Automotive South Africa, we believe in supporting future champions and enabling journeys of success. We are proud to have played a role in helping keep the team moving throughout the tournament and even prouder to see these young players inspire the nation with their performances.”
The title marks a significant moment for South African rugby and reinforces confidence in the country’s growing pipeline of emerging talent ahead of future international competitions. For the Junior Springboks, the unbeaten campaign in Gqeberha may well be remembered as the start of a golden generation quietly shifting into top gear.
