NEW YORK, September 12, 2024 — In a significant move set to reshape the automotive landscape, General Motors (NYSE: GM) and Hyundai Motor Company (KRX: 005380 KS) have announced a groundbreaking agreement to collaborate on a range of strategic initiatives. This partnership aims to enhance efficiencies, reduce costs, and drive innovation across multiple facets of the automotive industry.

The agreement, signed by Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung and GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra, marks the beginning of an in-depth exploration into joint product development, manufacturing processes, and clean energy technologies. By leveraging their complementary strengths, Hyundai and GM are poised to deliver a broader array of vehicles and technologies to market more rapidly and cost-effectively.

Joint Development of Vehicles and Technologies

Central to the collaboration are potential projects focused on the co-development and production of both passenger and commercial vehicles. This includes advancements in internal combustion engines and a robust push towards clean-energy solutions such as electric and hydrogen technologies. By aligning their efforts, Hyundai and GM aim to create vehicles that are not only more competitive but also more sustainable.

The partnership will also explore opportunities for combined sourcing, targeting critical areas such as battery raw materials and steel. This strategic approach is expected to yield significant cost reductions and enhance the overall efficiency of both companies’ supply chains.
